| Is my Louie Depressed? Hi everyone! I am worried sick about my little Louie but I think I am just ovr reacting! Maybe you can help me out. I got Louie about a month ago (he is 5 months)When I first got him he would just play for hours- with me without me. It took me forever to get him to calm down. I got him on a long weekend so I spend the first three whole days with him. Then I had to start going to work. At first he stayed in the play pen and was let out twice once by is dog walker (who plays with him for about 30 min) and again by my brother (who usually play with him for about an hour too). When I got home I would play with him and feed him and hang out with him till I went to bed...it took me forever to get him to just calm down he was always so excited and happy. Now after about 3 weeks of basically being on his own a bit during the day (with dog walker tho mid day) he plays a bit when I get home and then just sleeps. One Saterday he slept ALL DAY LONG. When I am home he just follows me around and looks at me. I still play a lot with him but I have to get things done when i get home too (cook clean etc.) So I guess I have two quiestions...is his behavior normal sleeping a lot and not playing all the time. and are there ways to give a lot of attention to your pup AND get things done around the house. Does anyone have games they play or things they do with their pup that makes them really happy that I can try. PLEASE help i want my baby to be happy! |

| I stay home most of the day and only leave for 3-4 hours at a time and when i get home Teddy is super happy and hyper fo rlike an hour. BUt he settles down and sleeps for a big part of the day (he's sleeping right now!) I dont think you have a problem. Maybe u can try playing fetch with him or something but while i cook and clean he will just sit by me and watch me. I think thats pretty normal. As long as someone comes to see him mid-day i dont think he should feel too lonely, some dogs stay home alone for 8 hours or more. I think he should be fine especially that hes still a puppy and will sleep a lot.

| I have also noticed and worried,, when it is real hot or even cold out,, they tend to sleep ALOT, maybe that has something to do with it..

| Have you considered doggy day care a few days a week or a few hours a day?? Yorkies are high energy pups/dogs a lot of the time and they need a challenge and often..do you use kongs or similar toys that you can put peanut butter, cream cheese or dog biscuits inside. Just try anything til your little one outgrows his rambunctous age. |

| It is normal for "house dogs" to sleep a lot at any age. My pup is left alone for six hours, 4 days a week. I carry him around with me (he's little) a lot as I do things when I get home. And - I take time to really play with him for 5 or 10 minutes several times in the evening. Plus - he runs around the sofa around me later every evening. BUT - the best thing I have going is the fact that I have another dog, and the two of them play their hearts out every night. This is good for both of them - the other dog is a four-year-old, 21-pound Bichon. Carol Jean |
