| tummy issues Mina has always been a picky eater, she is now 3 1/2 yrs old. Over the years we has done several things to get her to eat. Parmassian cheese on her kibble, chicken and rice mixed with her kibble, grainfree kibble,a tiny bit of canned food or baby meats with her kibble. She has always been difficult in the morning, empty tummy therefore nauseous. Dinner is almost always served between 7:30 and 8:00pm and breakfast is always served between 8:00 and 8:30am. Over the past week she has become more and more difficult to conjole into eating in the morning and then in the evening. Always otherwise acting normal. Friday morning she kept hiding under the edge of my bed, obviously not happy, but she ate her breakfast fine as well as snacks that were given during the day. I wasn't home for dinner and my daughter said that she ate just a few pieces of kibble, she ate the rest after I arrived home. Move forward to 2am,she wakes up wanting to go outside. The bowel movement that she had was awful and scary. Full of mucus, streaks of blood and streaks of brite pink, not sure what. Temp was perfectly normal, resperation and heartrate were normal. I slept on the couch with her and laid awake all night. No more trips outside. My vets office was called at 8:59am and I was there at 9:10. Fecal was done, normal. Bloodwork was done, all normal, liver enzymes were even at the lower end of normal, bloodsugar was normal and this was done on a fast. An extra test was done to more extensively check her pancreous,it was normal. ALL of that to say this, I am at my wits end, crazy and finding it hard to be nice to anybody because my baby is obviously not feeling well and the inside indications are not only good but great. Anybody have any suggestions, ideas, similar experiences. She was given clavamox and because I had to force feed that to her, I gave her a cerenia. This is truly making me crazy, even my DH is hiding in his office. |

| I'm sorry for the problems your little one is having. Mine is doing similar things . I will be watching this post to see what advice you get. May I ask what cerenia is? And why you have to give it because you had to force feed? I ask because I have been having to force feed too and should I give this? |

| A A lot of have picky eaters. My Zoey is almost 10 months and 3. 1/2 lb.... She does that not eating stuff too. She prefers to go to bed between 10 and else I, likes to sleep in till 10 and usually is a slow mover till at least 11. Doesn't eat till 1 or 2 then again at bed , with maybe a few little doggie snacks in between . I tried different kibble brands till I found a small one, moisten it and tried the topping game of green beans, carrot, yogurt , cottage cheese, peas, chicken parm. cheese, and oh what else.....different kinds of wet. We have stayed with Fromm dry and Merrick canned so far......once in a while switching to mixing in booked egg white, parm cheese or a crumbled gold fish. What can I say she likes variety. |

| Thank you all. 2 min after I hit enter,Mina threw up blood and mucus. Off to the EC in the sleet and snow, thank goodness for DH and the big A$$ truck. She received a shot of Cerenia and fluids. The vet and her staff were shocked that I came armed with a complete report from Tues to this morning, her blood records from yesterday and I had been keeping track of her body temp (perfect sense the first sign of problems). The techs fought over who got to get to help Mina, kinda cute. Mina doesn't chew on ANYTHING. After speaking with a friend with ALOT of yorkie knowledge, I think that we will move forward with a bile acid test, in a few weeks. If it comes back with no problem then I will atleast have that and if it comes back with a problem then I will have that and an answer. The whole reason I am her on YT is because I lost my little many Bunkey and am pretty sure that it was shunt that killed him. At the age of nine no one ever considered the possibility. Mina is home with us. The ride home took quite some time because of the weather. She ran in the house, said hi to the 4 siblings, grabbed a drink of water and then stared at me like "wheres tha beef". So yes she is feeling much better. Ive been giving her a tiny bit of rice mixed with wet food every hour or so and will continue until bed time. I am so tired, so tired, really hoping for a full nights sleep. Thank you everyone for letting me rant and for the advice. |

As someone else stated Cerenia is for nausea and vomiting. When I say force feed her a pill,it is because she would lick it off of a popcycle stick with peanutbutter and spit the pill out. So I had to pry her mouth open and place the pill deep in her mouth, then hold her mouth shut until she swallowed. Don't do this unless someone shows you how, dogs can choke if it is done incorrectly. I try not to do this with any of my dogs because they don't enjoy it and neither do I. | |

| Has anyone possibly fed her any table food? Rosie has tummy issues and in the past DH would give her food from his plate. This caused huge problems! So just a thought. Also, did the vet recommend a diet? When Rosie has issues she was put on I/D. Not to start a battle on Science Diet, but the I/D has helped Rosie as well as a vet nutritionist recipe for home cooking. Hoping your baby is feeling a lot better.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | With morning tummy sensitivity, I'd be worrying about whether she is going too long btwn meals. With some dogs, it can be as simple as giving a little protein treat late at night, right before bed -- have you tried that yet? You also have to wonder a bit about reflux or IBD/IBS. With reflux, they'll usually swallow hard a few/several times in a period of time - and also they tend to lick their mouths at the same time. If that's indicated, then you can give something like Pepcid. If it's IBD/IBS, then I think I'd want a prescription from the vet for something proven to be effective. Ulcers are another possibility to think about, and those are often managed by a med called Sucralfate. So sorry your kiddo is having problems - it's terrible to watch them go through tummy issues/not eating - when you don't know how to help them or what's going on. You're taking *such* stellar care of her though - so I know you'll figure this out eventually and get her back on track . Please keep us posted. Best of luck!

| Thank you both, NO ONE gives the dogs, especially Mina any tablefood unless they ask. My DH is so afraid of feeding the dogs something that would kill them that he will hand me the bite to give to Mina. I did speak with the vet this morning and the idea at this time is .... protein snack just before bed,if there is still a tummy issue in the morning then sucrafate (I have this on hand already). We will also try Pepcid. Im thinking that this is more of an acid issue, however I am still going to do a bile acid test on her in a couple of weeks. I would rather know yes or no on shunt. Mina feels so much better that she is begging for food and wanting to play. She is prancing around the house and bossing Kenzie around. I haven't seen this in several weeks,so it makes me think that she has not truly felt herself for a while and I just didn't notice,,that wont happen again either. She stuck her face in a bag of pumpkin chews while ago and ran off with two pieces, thought I would burst into tears. She has decided that tiny kibble is ok and for 10 days she wouldn't eat any kibble. It was nice to be able to come here yesterday and talk to those that would understand. My sweet DH just didn't know what to do with me,so he just listened and drove on the ice and the worst part of the winter storm to get us to the EC. |

| Recent discovery Oh my goodness Zoey has eaten so good today. Moisten kibble sprinkle with a tad Parmesan ( like I have done before) but now she loves Kix cereal crumbled on top. Just one ....but I give her one first so she is tempted.....isn't that crazy?! Try giving activa yogurt for acid reflux.....works for me! |

| Well here it is Wednesday and Mina is not eating. She has been getting two meals a day with two nacks inbetween and a little scrambled egg at bed time approx. 11:30pm. This morning she has turned down chic n rice, then with parm on top, baby turkey meats, dog treat (soft) and even my string cheese (desperate). She seems to want to eat, putting food in mouth, rolling it around and dropping it on the floor. I gave her 1/2 gram of Sucralfate and waited an hour and then tried everything again. She does not have any teeth issues at this time, already looked at the vet. The cerenia shot that she got last Sunday turned her into a totally different dog. Happy, playing,EATING anything that you were willing to let her have,,except kibble. So again I am on the verge of tears! I am having eye surgery Friday. Everyone is willing to help but this doesn't make me any less worried or crazy about Mina. We go back to the vet at 4. I will request an xray,we are scheduling a Bile acid in a couple of weeks,as soon as I am allowed to drive. I am open to any further suggestions. I know vet will know when to send to a specialist. Thanks in advance. |
