Donating YT 30K Club Member | Pixie is having health issues Please keep Pixie in your prayers. She has been acting very depressed and lethargic. She has been eating ok but has had no pep. In October I took her in for a possible UTI and had blood work and urinalysis done. I did not see her regular vet as I needed her seen right away. At that time her BUN had doubled to 27 from 17 the year before. The vet said her Creatinine was ok so he wasn't concerned. This is the vet I usually will not see because I don't think he is very thorough. Since she has been acting very depressed I wanted her checked out again. I took her to one of the two vets I use on Tuesday. I took in a urine sample and had blood work redone. They also took her blood pressure and it was high and erratic so they wanted me to take her to the Animal Emergency to get a doppler blood pressure reading. Her urine showed protein of 2+ and her blood work showed increased PVC's and her TSH was low. Based on the above my vet ran a urine protein -creatinine yesterday. That came back with protein in urine. She said after I got the BP done she would call me and probably order an abdominal ultrasound at the specialty clinic and referral to a specialist. I took her for the doppler blood pressure this morning and it was 240 mm-HG. Not sure what that all means but the tech said it was high and they were faxing the report to my vet. I am not sure what this all means but the vet said possible early kidney disease. If anyone has any similar experience I would like to hear it. I am so worried about her. Not only is she my baby she was a gift from my late husband. He called her his perfect Pixie. Thanks

| I'm praying, Patti. I know how worried you are...I'm worried too. I pray it is something simple and easily treated. Hugs to you and your sweet Pixie.

| Patti, you might want to read my threads about my Olivia. She has renal issues among other things...what you are describing sounds like PLN (protein losing nephropathy) which is what Olivia has. She has been on enalapril and aspirin (to avoid blood clots) since her diagnosis. We do UPC (urine protein creatinine ratio) every 3 - 4 months and also have her B/P checked. The nutritionist put her on Purina N/F and she has, like I said, done very well. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...phropathy.html Cathy/107barney 's Daisy also has this condition. Olivia is doing well and so is Daisy, so there is hope! Prayers for Pixie.

| Also, I would call the vet about that blood pressure reading. It is very high and she probably should be on a medication for it. Sometimes these things can sort of slip by everyone...so stay on top of it if you don't hear back from someone.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks My vet just called and she is putting her on enalapril today and referring her to an internal medicine specialist. In 2 weeks she will go there and have an abdominal ultrasound, recheck of her blood work and a thyroid test that will be sent to a Michigan lab. Im leaving now to get her medicine. This vet is very thorough and calls me within a couple of hours with results so we are both staying on top of it. I will do what ever necessary to get her better.

BTW if you read about this condition online it might scare you. It did me. Even the specialist told me that it has a poor prognosis. After seeing how well Daisy and Olivia have done, I have settled down about it and don't google for info about it any more.

| I'm so glad you heard back from your vet so quickly and can get Pixie on Enalapril today. That is one of the meds that Faith is on. I'm praying that this is all Pixie needs and nothing is found in the ultrasound. Hoping this med helps Pixie to feel better soon! Hugs to you and get well wishes to perfect Pixie!

| The treatment plan our IMS has Daisy on is benazepril along with a microdose of aspirin. Daisy was caught very early and has greatly improved with no azetemia and has normal blood pressure. Since Daisy has already outlived all her prognoses (the dog is amazing!) we only check her every 6-8 months. I don't think we ever did any thyroid tests because Daisy's thyroid screening T4 has always been good. She's had a number of ultrasounds and those confirm chronic renal failure (for the last 7 or 8 years). As LJ said, I find the illness kind of boring which is good. I hope that turns out to the case with your pixie. Good luck!

| Patti, I'm sorry to hear Pixie is having all these problems but it sounds like you and the vets are on top of it and she will be getting the diagnosis and care she needs. I'll be praying for Pixie and that she's got lots of years left with you.
