| Troubles with my 5 week old yorkie :( !! Help please! Okay, so I bought this cute little male yorkie about 2 weeks ago! We were told he was 6 weeks old already but when I got him I realized he had no teeth so I took him to the vet and the vet said he was about 3 weeks old. He was taken from his mom too early but I didn't know this when I bought him. I got him from a flea market so he was just a bit smelly and bathed him NOT KNOWING he was that little. He got chilly and shakes for like 2 hours :,(( idk if this has anything to do with some lose of hair in his body and head. Also he hasn't had his vaccinations yet because they said he was too small for them. Today he threw up his food only. Is that bad? Maybe he ate something he shouldn't have. I'm afraid he has a bowl obstruction! another factor that could play in his vomiting is the fact that he doesn't like puppy milk he only drinks cow milk. Also he doesn't stop biting me I know he's teething but he won't listen to me and bite his puppy toys. PLEASE HELP I DONT WANT HIM TO DIE! I love my puppy prince :,(( |

| Hi and welcome to YT. I feel sorry that Prince isn't feeling well but, why did you buy him? A flea market isn't the best place to find a pup. Even at 6 weeks of age the pup was way to small. Pups in this age have to be taken care of 24/7. How do you keep him warm? What does he eat? Have you contacted a breeder in your area that can give you advice in taking care of such a young pup? Have you done your research in what a pup this age needs?

| I literally had almost the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. First, I'd take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. If he's cleared of anything serious, go to the pet store and get some Nutrical. Give him a pea sized drop 2-3 times a day. Get some Royal Canine Puppy Mousse. It's a canned food. You may have to hand feed him. I had to hand feed my Cherry for a while. I also used a syringe to get some water in her. I am not sure, but I believe you should NOT be giving him cow's milk. Get some goat's milk or puppy formula from the pet store. I mixed warm goat's milk with Royal Canine Starter kibble to soften it and the starter mousse and fed her with a syringe or with my fingers. These little ones need to eat small amounts every couple hours. He needs to be watched 24/7 for a while. How much does he weigh? Most importantly, it sounds like he needs to go back to the vet immediately.

| My dear, you have literally jumped into the deep end of a pool, then remembered you have no idea how to swim.....Unfortunately, the USDA or PETA or the Humane Society, who claim to be so concerned about how puppies are being bred, cared for, nurtured, and sold, will be of no help for you, as they are not concerned nor actively attempting to prevent horrific, tragic events such as this 3 week old infant that is not even ready to be away from his momma for several hours at a time, let alone peddled to the public at a flea market or garage sale or parking lot. That said, Royal Canin Starter Mousse is highly recommended to feed this puppy, who is not even weaned correctly at this stage! You may need to feed the mousse by hand, letting him lick it from your fingers....feed from a saucer or flat plate....he is just learning how to lick stuff up, he doesnt know about taking bitefuls from a bowl. You can take Royal Canin Puppy Kibble, and soften it even more with a little warm puppy formula....get the recepie from the breeders section on this site.....that formula, which is made up of Just Born, Peidalyte, Vi-Daylin baby vitamins, Karo syrup and raw egg yolk, will provide him the sugar and electrolytes he needs....do NOT give cows milk....they can digest cows milk.....you can also give goats milk with all the ingredients added above instead of using Just Born Puppy milk....warm it up a little and he will enjoy it more...soak the kibble in that....you can put a couple tablespoonfuls over the mousse in a little saucer....he will lick the mousse and get some of the formula....You also need to be reading "Yorkies for Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide"....these two books will give you an idea of just what you have jumped into.....I wish I could get my han....let me rephrase this....I wish I could meet the "breeder" that sold you this unfortunate little soul....this person, in MY mind, is public enemy #1.....this person has taken advantage of YOU and is endangering that puppys life.....THAT is animal abuse, in my opinion. Maybe one day, PETA and the Humane Society and the SPCA will actually realize where they NEED to be patrolling and what they really NEED to be doing to stop this type of thing from happening. Until then, I just shake my head and cry over the loss of life that results from this animal abuse.....God bless this poor tiny soul, who thru no fault of his own, has been peddled at a flea market.....help this new owner learn what she needs to keep this baby alive and help it mature into a well balanced adult in sopite of such a horrific start in life.... | I forgot to stress, you have a practically newborn that has not been taught any social skills by its momma, so YOU are going to have to be a LOT more patient with this baby.....he wont listen to you because that is not his priority at this stage....he is just learning all about what is around him and how to deal with everything....he has received NO instruction from anyone about how to deal with this new world...back off of the behavior training, and realize he is a baby that is learning....no, he wont listen to you because he was never taught about pack behavior and submission and how to behave with his seniors or pack members in authority....enormous amout of patience is required on YOUR part....you need to read what momma dogs are teaching their babies at each week of their lives, and try to provide that learning experience for your baby. Remember, your baby was deprived of his momma at around 3 weeks of age, so that is about where you need to start with EVERYTHING!! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 10-05-2013 at 08:40 AM. |

| unfreakingly believable....I have nothing to add other than this is a prime example of "ooooooh looooookkkkkk at the tiny puppy, can I have him?" I hate the people who prey on people like this....I can't fathom that anyone would buy a pup this tiny for any other reason than because its so tiny....its just totally crazy to me...nothing personal against the OP because God knows she is about to learn a lesson...but please listen to the folks here who can offer advice and do it...if you can't take care of this pup 24/7 YOU MUST CALL A RESCUE ORGANIZATION.... I hope you do whatever is necessary to help this pup....Good luck.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Poor wee puppy Prince Dino and poor you for getting a little bit hoodwinked. I hope you take all the advice you can get here and get this teeny to the vet very regularly to help you both with any problems.

You purposely bought a puppy that was too young to be taken from the mom. Even if he truly had been 6 weeks, that would have been 6 weeks too early. It's now your responsibility to get him healthy before you start working on behavior problems that come from lack of socialization.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Wow, totally unbelievable that anyone would take this baby away from its mother at such a ridiculously young age. I've seen stories where others where young but this is the youngest I've every heard of. Its very sad ! Its very important that you get this baby eating and drinking. At this age he should still be nursing and with no teeth he's too young to be on hard kibble and should not be on 100% cows milk. He should slowly being introduces to semi solid foods. Find a good puppy gruel recipe and start him on that. It should be mixed to a smoothie type consistence and than made thicker each week til about the age of 6-7 weeks. You'll be amazed how he will dive right in, than slowly introduce him to moistened kibble using a good puppy kibble. Plus goats milk mixed with 50% water would be better but 100% water would be best. Here is my puppy gruel recipe: Serve warm 1/2 can puppy food 1 can carnation condensed milk 1 cup ground puppy kibble add water if needed for proper consistency. Mix to smoothie const. using food processor or blender. Store unused portion in refrigerator and heat as needed. Some breeders will add a raw egg or even yogurt. That is optional.

| Truly unbelievable. Could the vet have been wrong? According to this site Yorkie pups just begin to open their eyes at 3-4 weeks. Yorkie Age | Yorkshire Terrier Information Center Regardless, this pup should be with it's mom for much longer, and it is actually illegal to sell a pup less than 8 weeks old.
