Shaking episodes after being vaccinated - HELP! Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum and I would really appreciate any advise that you may have regarding this problem that we are having with our little one. We have had Heidi for 3 weeks now, she is smart, happy, playful, eats & drinks well, her weight (3 lbs 7.5 oz) which we think is good for 11 weeks old and everything in the potty department is working well. Heidi seemed very healthy until a week ago when she had her 2nd set of shots. I'm not positive that being vaccinated is the cause but it seems odd that we never noticed anything wrong with her prior to the Injection, HeartGuard, Advantage & Kennel Cough. But since Heidi received all the above last week she is encountering these episodes about 8-10 times during the day. We have not noticed any signs while she is sleeping. I have taken two videos of her episodes (it won't let me attach them to this post) where she seems to go to another place, vibrates briefly (only a few seconds), her head goes up & back and then everything is back to normal. I took her back to the vet last Thursday to have her checked out, and the vet was lucky enough to be watching her when I asked her to sit and was about to give her a treat for being so smart when she had one of her episodes in front of him. The vet has not seen anything like this and he said that he has never heard of anything like this happening to a Yorkie after vaccinating, the vet gave me 4 doses of vanectyl-p to see if it will help. To date Heidi has taken 3 doses and her episodes have continued, and she now is congested, sneezing and this morning when she woke up she had a bout of which sounded like she was having trouble breathing, this to passed quickly, she does have a little bit of a runny nose. The vets office said they will call Monday morning to follow up with me. Has anyone else encountered this with their little ones and if so what is it and what should I be doing? HELP!!!!! I hate seeing my precious little girl going through this

| I'd get her to an ER asap if she's still having breathing difficulty, or has any new or worsening symptoms.

I agree with both comments above. You need to have Heidi looked at ASAP. Moreover, my vet does not give more than two shots at one time. Most of the time he only gives them one shot per visit. No one can determine which dog will have a negative response to a vaccine so it is better to exercise on the safe side. It is not worth the risk for these little guys. I don't mean to preach. I know you are following your vet's advice and he is doing what he believes is best. It just seems that I read at least 2-3 posts every week that a dog has a negative response to vaccinations. Heidi will probably improve once the medications work through her system but for some dogs the damage can be permanent. I also agree that the Kennel Cough vaccine is needed only if you are going to board your dog or take him to groomer. If you groom Heidi yourself and do not board her then she does not need the vaccine. Dr. Ron Schultz and several other experts have a lot of good information to read on the internet about vaccines. You may want to consider titter tests prior to vaccinating. I hope everything works out and Heidi gets better. Please keep us advised.

I should have suggested to read about focal seizures. There is no way to know if Heidi is symptomatic of focal seizures with the limited information. Focal seizures are not uncommon in little breeds, Yorkies and dogs after vaccinations. There are videos on YouTube of dogs experiencing a focal seizure. The information will help you and the vet rule it in or out. Right now finding the cause is most important. It is fine to give Heidi the medication as your vet suggested but if you can find the cause of the seizure then you will know if you are administering the right medication and getting to the root of the problem. Educating yourself will get Heidi healthy faster.

Good advice from everyone. Hope your baby gets well. All these meds scare me with our little ones. I give as little as possible. I also give the shot for kennel cough, not the spray through the nose. Hope things get better for that baby.
