| Little Tibbe Sick Again - Bad Diarrhea Since Yesterday. Breeders-to-be - READ THIS! Poor little Tibbe just seemed to get over his vomiting and then the diarrhea started. Just mucus in his stools at first and then today mostly loose stools until at 4:25 pm, he had diarrhea just lying on the couch - 3 or 4 tablespoons or so. My Kaopectate had gone bad so I had to give him some Pepto - about 1/4 t. at 1:00 am this morning so his stools got dark but this last one was back to brown. When I saw a tinge of blood on part of a stool at 1:00 pm today, I called the vet for an appt. and she said no need as he'd just spent the whole day with her Monday - just come in and pick up Metronidazole and so he was started on that at 2:28 pm. He's now had 9 loose stools since 10 am yesterday but kept eating until today. so far today, he won't eat and I'm giving him kibble soup via syringe in the side of his mouth, together with sugar water or Pedialyte. His vet says give him 10 ml. of fluid via syringe an hour! That seems excessive to me and he's been drinking water all day until about 3:00 pm when he stopped voluntarily drinking but his stools haven't been bad until that last one on the couch. I just gave him 4 ml. sugar water in the side pocket of his mouth and he's keeping it down and - knock on wood - no more diarrhea for the two hours but I know he'll likely have more until the Metronidazole begins to kick in. Can I give him Kaopectate if I need to? Mine went bad and I stopped by Walmart to get some more and they were OUT! I could run up and get some more at Albertson's but it's too late and I forgot to ask the vet if Kao was okay! I viciously hit my head on the cupboard when I raised up with a can of soup about an hour or so ago and am more than a little dingy. Head hurting and back is OUT - hurting so bad from all the cleaning up and nursing Tibbe over this past night and day. He acts alert and his gums are fine, skin shows no evidence dehydration so far but am watching him like a hawk. We're off to the ER Vet if just one more thing happens or Tibbe goes "south". Vet says don't panic - it's just going to the canned hepatic food too fast and his GI tract upset but he'll be fine. I'm not so sure! I'm growing so weary and tired and no sleep and now this head is just aching(using ice packs on it) and that poor little boy of mine is restless, can't stay down for long without wanting to get up and move, as if he's hurting! Vet says Metro. will help that. I'm scared, exhausted and unsure what in the world to do at this point and I'm not even the sick one - poor little Tibbe is. People that breed poor little dogs willy-nilly and without testing the parents for liver/other medical problems as Tibbs' parents undoubtedly weren't, are just AWFUL to help pass along grave problems to the breeding pair's poor, hapless puppies. I knew when I got him that he was likely in for medical problems, was essentially a "rescue" and from a heedless breeding from a breeder who'd abused him keeping him in a cage for 9 mos. of his life and then gave him and the rest of her Yorkies to my Jilly's breeder to place in a home when she encountered family problems and still it hurts so when you see the outcome of BAD BREEDING and what it does to the poor little dogs and the people who adore them. I knew he'd likely be sickly when I took him but after Jilly, knew I had lots of experience in how to handle delicate systems and nurse them along, get excellent vet care, etc., whereas another buyer might not. Still, knowing that up front, the things the puppies of bad breeders can go through are just HORRIBLE - horrible for the dog, horrible to watch then suffer. So wrong in so many many ways!!! I wish I had his breeder by the neck right now! No, just kidding...........................almost. JK, really, but boy, am I angry at her often! Very, very angry. Please, ANYONE READING THIS THINKING OF BREEDING, please do not breed dogs indiscriminately whatever you do! Study the lines and health of those lines, health test and know your genetics and how to pair two dogs to improve the breed or please - DON"T BREED and create little dogs like Tibbe with a bad liver, inherited, and no fault of his own. But he's paying the price. And indiscriminate breeding can produce puppies with soooo many other medical problems if the parents and their lineage aren't healthy from way back. It's so wrong to breed dogs without health testing them and knowing their ancestors' health history! If you could see Tibbe right now, you'd know - it's wrong! Sorry for the rant. I'm just tired and worried. Is Kaopectate safe to use with the Metronidazole - does anyone know? Once again, YT's prayers will SO be appreciated for my sweet, sweet baby Tibbe!

| I agree 100%...Buster had LP when I got him at around 10 weeks old (he came from a broker and at the time I knew nothing about brokers, bad genes, etc.), but I did not return him. I'm glad I did not return him as I don't think anyone else would have spent the time and money on his legs. My heart breaks for him right now as he can barely walk, when he gets up to walk. This is not Buster, who loves to go at one speed...high. I can tell he's in pain. So yes, to the bad breeders, in my book, you more than suck.

| I got off on my rant and forgot to say - I don't know about giving Kaopectate with your other medicine. But I will be praying for little Tibbe and hoping that he is well soon.

| I'm praying for both of you. I checked for drug interactions and did not find any negative interactions between Flagyl and Kaopectate. Please get well, Tibbe, and take care of your special mom, too. I'm so glad that your mom has you to love. She takes such great care of you. We see each day the pain, worry, and suffering caused by people breeding for the wrong reason. It is so very heartbreaking to say the least.

| Watch close for dehydration. Make sure his gums aren't sticky. Nine loose stools in less than two days is very dehydrating. You can't always tell if they are dehydrated. The Hepatic may be too much for him. It is moderate fat which may be upsetting to some Yorkies.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I am so sorry to hear about Tibbe. I hope the medication works quick and he will be on the mend soon. Also thank you for posting about the breeding. I know this is so hard for you. I hope that if one person doesn't breed their dogs you will make a difference. I am hoping that it really affects more. Hugs and good thoughts to you both

However, at 8:30 pm he awoke, I game him 4 ml. sugar water and he demanded some treats. I got him some softened Hill's I/D GI kibble and gave him 5 pieces in a row which he readily ate. Then he wanted more and scared to feed him more pieces of kibble, I gave him the rest of his kibble soup which was 5 pieces of kibble soaked and mashed with a lot of water and a tad of sugar in it. He drank all of it before I knew what the was doing! Now am scared he's going to get nauseated so I'm watching him with the Cerenia at hand and also fearful of all this food intake starting his diarrhea back. His last stool was that large loose one on the couch comforter at 4: 25 pm! Will be keeping a close eye on him the next hours! Thanks for the info on the kao and metro! Crystal, you are my rock!
