| Please asking for help & advice Hi, I've never posted before I don't think, but I've used this site for several years & countless information & it's great & so helpful! With that said, oh please help me now! I have 2 yorkies, Tia who is around 7 yr. old 5 1/2 lb, and Ella who is 11 1/2 week old close to 1 lb. 12 oz. After a trip to the vet yesterday needing flea help desperately & also shots, he gave them Tia - Trifexis, and Ella - Sentinel 2-10#. I thought all would be fine until I've done some research and I see that especially with the baby that the Sentinel can be very dangerous! Her age, size, isn't anywhere on the labels I read either. With the experience that I read of here I'm sure hoping for some advice, I'm on hold in giving it to either of them. Taking in a cat isn't always a good thing, but I did and he brought fleas with him! On the animals & in the house! I've used Adam's spray, on all of them, only rubbing it onto the puppy with my hands, spraying down the others. I've bombed my house 3 times and I just am having a HORRIBLE TIME!!! It seems that they always come back. Any help or advice would be so appreciated, I'm feeling rather desperate... |

| Make sure you use a flea product that contains a growth inhibitor. You can bathe them with Dawn dishwashing liquid for a quick knock down of fleas. You can use table salt on any carpeting... it will dehydrate the fleas and you vacuum them up in the morning. You can use Diatomaceous Earth from the health food store, on the house, yard, the dog and puppy, and the cat. Be extremely careful using any combination of toxic sprays and or treatments. They can kill a dog or a cat. I use only treatments I buy from my vet. It's a little more expensive but well worth the peace of mind.

| Hi & thanks for the reply. I've never used the Diatomaceous Earth I've never had such a need though. How do I use it? I've read of that on here many times, I will have to make a 1 1'2 hr. trip to get it but I will if need be. What about the meds that yes, the vet gave me? Has anyone used the Sentinel on a puppy only 10 1/2 weeks & at 1 lb. 12 oz.? The research I've done this morning is contradicting, and I've read of horrible effects possible, even death, and saying not for use on so young or small. The puppy seems so tiny still. Oh yes, and though a yorkie site, any advice on treating a cat that can turn into a demon!? I've never had such bad flea problems & I'm beginning to feel rather helpless with the little @#$%... |

| Is the cat an indoor cat NOW???? You need to address the situation with the cat. You didn't mention what you have done with the cats infestation. Sometimes the best solution is getting the help of a professional...by the time all is said and done you will have spent bucu dollars on the treatments your getting etc. As far as the meds. As long as you feel your vet is competent I think you are safe. I would call the vet to fully explain your concern and get the reinforcement from the VET. Schedule a pro to treat your home on the same day you are having your cat deflea'd!!! Flea bits on small animals can become a problem. Not giving them flea prevention etc...can become a bigger problem. I'm reminded of a dog chasing its tail...your going in circles...Good luck and keep us posted...I feel for you, I know I would be flipping out too.

| Yes, the cat became the root of the problem I'm sure, it was fine before but I couldn't turn him away. He was my mom's and she's passed now so... I inherited him. I put frontline on the cat but it didn't seem to help much at all! I used the Adam's house bombs and also spray, and gave the older yorkie comfortis, then both of them a bath in Dawn. I thought I was rid of them for near a week but then they were back! The fleas are a problem, but I probably will contact some professional help as yes, as you said I'm spending a fortune & not getting much of nowhere. But the meds prescribed, especially the puppy I am very concerned about. I don't want to give her the Sentinel & then have a very sick or dead puppy. So I really was wondering if anyone had used that on a puppy so young or little? |

| I don't think that the age is an issue, but being under the 2 lb limit would worry me. I've given Sentinel to one younger than that without any problems, but they weighed about 2.5 lbs. I have given mine both Trifexis and Sentinel, and I much prefer the Sentinel (because of the spinosad in Trifexis). I have used Sentinel on my dogs for around 15 years without any issues (and only used Trifexis for a while when there was a manufacturing problem that caused a shortage of Sentinel). If I were you, I would using only Sentinel on both of the dogs and trying to wait until the baby gains a little more weight.
