| Pickles has FHO surgery tomorrow! Hi everybody! It's been a crazy summer around here with a family medical crisis, and although we knew our little rescue pup, Pickles has Legg-Calve-Perthes (LCP), we had to put off surgery for about a month and a half due to the family issue -- and me being out of town as a result. Pickles was not suffering and actually rarely ever limped or held his leg up. We used Rimadyl as needed, but probably only one or two doses over the past month. Now, I've been back in town for a week and a half and Pickles started sitting strangely last week, as well as picking up his leg quite a bit, which he hadn't been doing previously. Took him for x-ray Friday and we found the degeneration in his femoral head had increased significantly, to say the least. Poor guy. We're having the same doc that did P-Nut's femoral head ostectomy surgeries do Pickles' -- tomorrow. I'm not nearly as nervous as with the first two (P-Nut's surgeries), but, still, Pickles is just a little guy, (6.5lbs) and though I know this surgery will help him enormously, it's still nerve racking. In good news, P-Nut's done so well, you would never know he ever had a problem with his hips! We love our vet. In P-Nut's case, the LCP was definitely due to bad breeding - people breeding pets without doing the appropriate testing and not having in mind bettering the breed (thanks, YT, for teaching me about this!!). In Pickles' case, we're not sure as Animal Control picked him up and he was injured, limping and swollen, living on the streets of San Jose. He may have been kicked, thrown out of a car or any number of scenarios that boggle my mind. On the other hand, the LCP could be genetic. In any case, it's clear he's not a product of responsible breeding, either. It's so sad, so many little yorkies and other animals suffering due to human greed. We're committed to taking care of these guys for life, they've changed my life dramatically - I never had any idea what the love of a dog was like, really. And Pickles is such a love, though clearly he was abused before we got him - all he wants to do is give love. He's precious! All good thoughts are greatly appreciated, YTers! I've attached a couple of photos of Pickles. |

| One more pic, I can't resist. This was taken at the end of June on a boat - as you can see, Pickles is acting like nothing's wrong with his leg at all. They are amazing little guys. |

| Fho Okay well I'll say God bless the little Pickles. My little Pixie had that last Jan. She is doing well now but it was a long and difficult road. In the middle of winter we had to get her to use the leg and she did just that but she preferred the snow outside to put her leg down on. Had to take Saffie out and away from Pixie so she could rest. They certainly didn't know what was happening. I think because they are rescues and then having surgery and UTI's Pixie is trusting us more and more now. She is such a delight and I love both of them! |

| Ahhh Pickles you are so adorable!! Pickles may have had a bad past, but his future sounds amazing..that’s all that matters. It sounds like you have an amazing Vet, these days that is so important. Sad to say not everyone has a Vet that they can trust. Pickles and Pnut are lucky to be with your family. Peanut and I will be sending prayers for a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery to Pickles. It sounds like Pickles is going to do just fine!!

| Thanks so much, Linda and thank you for the support and advice you provided on our first go 'round with this (P-Nut's surgery last year). You helped me to not completely freak out! |

But, I've decided maybe fostering would be good after this latest surgery is over and Pickles is in shape again. We'd love to help more rescue babies. Thank you for all that you do!!!

| That would be awesome if you did that. The world definitely needs more foster homes!

| I can't say it enough, I am so happy that Pickles found you and your family. You were all meant to be together. P & P are the perfect pair. AND I really wish we lived close to each other because I think our boys would have a blast on play dates. Pickles remains in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and perfect recovery. I was admiring his vacay close up pic on FB again this morning. Such a sweet face. How could anyone not fall completely in love with him? I'm so glad he has a great mom and dad to dote on him, and an awesome brother to show him the ropes. Will be watching for your update tomorrow when Pickles is out of surgery.

Pickles seems so delicate compared to P-Nut, I feel so bad for him, but he'll be better in the long run for this. Plus, he'll have a Fentanyl patch for 3 days, in all likelihood he won't feel much. xoxoxoxo
