poor Leiloni,,,,

Leiloni had her last set of shots this last Friday and seemed to have handled them just fine. On Monday morning everything was normal. She had been eating, drinking, stool was normal and she never threw up once. She was extremely hyper running back and forth and wanting to play. It was when she would stop playing and sit or stand still that concerned me. It was like if she was dizzy or something. She was shaking but not like she was scared or cold. It was like the shaking someone does due to Parkinson's and is drunk. Drunk because she would actually stumble to one side like a drunk person. But when initiating play she was alert. So I scooped her up and rushed her into the vet. We get to the vet and I took her out of her bag so they can see what she was doing and noticed a lump on her back I freaked out and lifted her hair and found a sore. I put her back in her bag and by the time the doc called us back she was soaked from mouth to front feet. Of course I lost it. The doc said that it was because she was stressed or had a tummy ache. She had a 103 temp and I did show him what I found on her back. He looked and gave her 2 shots of some antibiotics and sent us home with a bottle of Amoxicillin which has to be given twice daily and told me to keep an eye on her. He said the she could have had the shakes and dizziness from the fever and just make sure she is eating and drinking. He said if it kept up or got worse to come back and that they would have to take take blood to see what's going on. Once we got home she had settled down and wanted to play and run and was still shaking but not as bad. I forced her to drink some water and put her on my lap and rubbed her ears till she fell asleep. She woke up and was no longer shaking. The sore was on the injection spot and truly feel this was the cause of her fever. The sore is now healing (thank God!) and she hasn't had a fever since I took her in.

Has anyone had this happen with their little one? I know they have to have the rabies once yearly and now I'm scared.

Here are some pictures of day of and now. And another one of my spoiled girl who has been prancing around naked and loose and fancy free. Don't want to irritate her skin till it is completely healed. She is a hot mess but still looks adorable!

I don't have any answers for you and I know others will for sure. I just wanted to tell you that I agree it is related to the shots and I'm praying Leiloni is better soon!

Also, I just discovered that the 1 year and 3 year vac for rabies are exactly the same. All states allow for the 3 year so I would check the county you live in (I am doing this) to see if the county requires rabies every year or allows for the 3 year. I"m not sure why a county can override a state, but apparently it can.

Your hot mess looks just like Tatiana without her hair done! Lol! Ewww that looks like it would be sore. I don't have any advice but Leiloni is pretty tiny and maybe should have smaller amounts of vaccine. My Tameka that passed has a similar reaction to a vaccine. She had a large swelling which was very tender and had to be on antibiotics, too. The vet at the time said...."Maybe I should have given her a smaller dose" needless to say, I never went back to that vet!
I always have my vet give Benedryl before an injection. They give this each time, wait about 15-20 minutes for it to start working and then give the vaccine.

I took her to the Humane Society and she did just fine with past vaccinations so I was comfortable taking her there. It very well maybe no ones fault and that she just had a bad reaction to the rabies shot but I will be taking her to the vet I originally went to from now on! He is a bit more expensive but I have never had any problems with them before. They are a bit more attentive and take more time and are not rushing you out due to a over crowed waiting room

Oh, I just assumed you took her to the vets to have her shots. I would still give her some Benedryl before a shot.

Along with the 6 in 1 and rabies they also gave her a Benedryl shot. They said if she is not feeling well or has a reaction to give her more but she never did show any signs. She's been happy, eating and drinking and normal stool. I just feel so bad that I didn't notice the sore on her back sooner.

Don't feel bad.....what is important is that you took her in as soon as you noticed the sore! She will be fine.......give her lots of hugs and cuddles!

Well if I understand you correctly you gave on the same day a 6 in one shot and rabies??

If so please read here on the vaccination protocol by Dr Jean Dodds. Your gal looks tiny and for sure should have had shots separated. Rabies is usually given alone for the small breeds.

Also please make sure your vet knows her previous re-action to rabies vaccine.

Consider if you can titers going forward.

WOW I am very upset now! She is very tiny and I did ask if it was ok to be giving her so much being that she is so tiny. And they said oh yeah she'll be just fine.

Has her dizziness cleared? And she's eating and drinking?

Puppy vaccines require 2 Rabies in one year, Around 4-6 months (some counties differ) then a booster at 1 year old. Then it goes to one every 3 years. I agree, never together with any other vaccs and a month apart from other vaccs or procedures/injury is best.

She never showed any signs of illness. That's what was so weird about the whole thing. She was totally normal with eating and drinking. No vomiting and stool was and still is completely normal. The dizziness and shaking has completely stopped soon after we came home from the vet. This happened on Monday. Today she as normal as can be.

Good.... those can be signs of overvaccination also.
