| Blood in stools I noticed today Brandi had blood in her stools. I've made a vet appointment for tomorrow. The only other symptom she has seems to be straining while trying to poop. She has no other symptoms. She has an healthy appetite, drinking water normally and is not lethargic. What should she be checked for? |

| I spent late Monday night into Tuesday at the ER vet, and then today at our regular vet with ZoE, as she had bright red, bloody, watery diarrhea...lots of it. They have no idea what caused it, but are treating the symptoms, and giving her meds to settle her stomach/intestines and she's had two rounds of IV fluids to keep her hydrated. I'm glad to see you're on top of it and getting Brandi to the vet right away. Is the blood bright red or darker red?

| It's sort of in between...not to bright and not to dark. She appears to be okay otherwise. I didn't notice any blood in her stool this morning though. It seems intermittent. I can't tell if there is a blockage is she seems to be constipated. I've practically had her little butt under a microscope. Oh well I'll just have to wait until we see the vet this afternoons to hopefully find out whats going. |

| Shortly after I brought Lexi home she had very small bright red drops of blood when she pooped. The vet said that the blood vessels in that area are very thin and, if she strains when she poops, they can easily pop. She said it was normal. She hasn't had that happen since she was about 10 weeks, though. I hope it's something simple like that for Brandi.

| I hope so too. She has been doing so well the last 8 months since her diagnosis of Liver Shunts. I would hate for there to be any setbacks. She is 13 yrs old so I tend to almost panic even if she sneezes too much. |

| blood in stools PLEASE get your pup to the vet, and ask him/her to test for HGE! I had a similar thing occur with our Graysee, since this past Saturday. I took her to the vet today, and now she is spending the night in the hospital, on intravenous fluids, as a precaution against a possible case of HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), which, if left untreated, can often be fatal. Fortunately, she hadn't begun the bloody diarrhea yet, and it's possible that it is only an intestinal tract infection, but the vet was taking no chances. Graysee started vomiting up her food on Saturday, and has been doing so ever since. I took her because I was worried that she could become dehydrated, and that is also an effect of this disorder. I had never heard of HGE, but I find, after studying up, that it is fairly common in young, adult small-breed dogs, specifically Yorkies, among others. SO, now I'm going thru a bad case of Yorkie withdrawal symptoms, as she is ALWAYS by my side! I don't even know if I'll get to sleep tonight without her being here. Thankfully, if this IS HGE, it has been discovered very early, and her time in the hospital will be short; a day or two. Please take your pup to the vet!!!! I have seen many recent posts about pups getting sick and vomiting, and having bloody diarrhea. I have also read, online, about the recent spate of dog and cat illness from Blue Buffalo pet food. Apparently, the company was sold fairly recently, and many pets have been getting sick; our Graysee has been eating Blue Buffalo for the past couple years, but I am now giving her anymore. I will find a new food to give her after she recovers from this current bout of whatever it is. |

| Oh no, that's what my pup eats. Maybe I need to change to another brand, guess I will do some homework. I have heard here that Blue was the best food for pups. Chip was scratching a lot on purina one then I switched to blue, he don't scratch as much. About two months ago chip had HGE, but it was caught in time also. May have been the Blue Bufflo. |
