| My Little Guy Hi everyone I have a 10 year old little guy who has these crusty places on his back. I can not figure out what they are. He has them before but they seem to be getting worse. We have had him tested and was told that it was staph but that it was not contagious. They are not red or runny just brown and hard no hair loss no signs that they even bother him just creeps me out. I don't trust any vet so I am kinda stuck. The problem didn't seem to be bad last summer just started getting bad at the beginning of winter. I hope someone might be able to help |

| What kind of shampoo do you use and how often do you bath him? Is his coat dry or oily? Coconut oil works wonders for skin problems. You can put a little of the oil on the skin and you can also add it to his diet.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Has your vet tried an antibiotic for your little guy? I would also recommend a senior blood panel if you haven't done one recently. Dogs and people with weakened immune systems or diabetes are prone to skin staph infections. My 4 year old had a few black crusty spots on his belly last year. He had a couple rounds of antibiotics that cleared them up, but I didn't want to keep using antibiotics every time he had one. We started using organic coconut oil on them (Cocotherapy or Nutiva are my favorite brands), and added a fish oil supplement to his diet, and he hasn't had a spot since.

| I just stated using shampoo with Neem in it. I was using a shampoo I got from the vet which didn't help. I bathe him twice a week. Then I put vetericyn on him. |

| It sound like a staph infection to me. When she was older, my little girl at the Rainbow Bridge kept getting them, and antibiotics would clear the infection up. As soon as she was off the antibiotics, it would come back. I have heard great things about coconut oil, and I cook with it for my little girl, Katie. I hope you find something to help your little guy. Welcome to YT.

| Yes, you can put the coconut oil directly on the skin. It has anti-bacterial properties and it is moisturizing, promotes healing. I would hold the herbs and neem shampoo. Use a regular mild dog shampoo and conditioner, then apply the organic coconut oil.

| That is what originally I was told but that was three years ago. The vets doesn't know what it is. I lost one little Yorkie because of a vet so I don't trust them. |
