surgery tomorrow I somehow ended up fostering a 2 year old yorkie with a broken leg, things like this happen to me a lot. The poor baby was hit by a car approximately a month ago and spent 3 1/2 weeks at the vet. The original owner couldn't afford the repair so said to euthanize him or find a new home, whatever they wanted to do. A few rescues found out about him but didn't have the budget for the repair. Another rescue, not ours, said they would pay for the surgery but they now seem not as commited as they once were so another friend an I may have to pay for the repair. Our local vet is willing to do it for under a$1000 but since he'll need to have frequent visits for dressing changes he'll need to stay with me. First question is any ideas on keeping him occupied after. I don't want to sedate him but keeping him quiet these past days has been very difficult. I have put him in a crate smaller than I would like because he jumps and tries to stand on the fractured leg if I don't. He doesn't like toys and won't chew on anything. Second question, what to name him. I refuse to let him go to surgery named Yorkie. I've narrowed it down to Axl, Baxter, Caleb, Reese,Rudy or Zach. All opinions appreciated.

| There is someone here who has had to keep her pup confined for many weeks after leg surgery. Her latest post is here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...e-week-go.html You may want to post a reply and ask for tips/suggestions or send her a Private Message. Bless you for taking care of this darling boy!

Thanks for the link. I'll definitly pm her. He's a sweet little guy who just wants to sit in your lap and give kisses. I think he's cute but had him shaved down to get rid of the mats and to make it easier to keep him clean after surgery. I'll post a picture as soon as my computer is fixed or replaced. One of my fosters decided to claim the tower as his. We now wear belly bands. If it can't be fixed I think a laptop is in order.

OK, that gives us from A-Z. We leave in 2 hours. Poor baby can't figure out why he's the only one being starved and had to have another bath.

Reese sounds good right now but I'm going home to visit family I haven't seen in a few years so none until after the trip. Those were my favorite names. I gave the list to the vet techs who had cared for him for the past 3-4 weeks before he came to me and they chose Zach. They did care for him and were happy to see him cleaned up. He seemed to remember the place, if all the shaking and whinning meant anything. Poor baby. He'll have to spend the next 2 nights which is best since I have to work 7p-7a the next 2 nights but then have a week off with him. He's a sweetheart and I'm lucky to be able to help him.

You are an angel! This poor little guy really needs you! I really don't have any suggestions except keep him in the crate. Maybe the vet has some. Probably after the surgery he may not want to be so active. I know this name wasn't on your list, but I love Dexter.

I'm going to have to keep fostering so I can use all the names. Zach did well during his surgery and will probably stay tomorrow night as well. He was too drugged out to respond much tonight but thats probably for the best at this point. Then the fun begins at home keeping him quiet. Thanks for the thoughts.
