| dewclaw amputee, days 2 Hello, we just had 2 of our baby yorkies remove their dewclaws. It is the second day and the dr at the vet said to remove the bandages. We removed them today. I know they are not suppose to lick the dewclaws area, but we would catch one of our babies licking them. Now one of his legs where the dewclaw was removed is swollen and he's been crying here and there. We already gave him pain medicine from the vet. I there anything elsewhere can do? It's really swollen. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would call an ER vet for advice to see if he needs to be seen tonight. If he's still crying after pain medicine I would want him seen as soon as possible. Please keep us posted.

| Ok. I just called the vet ER and they told me to give him some more pain meds and if I can to wrap bandages around it until tomorrow morning so we can take him to the vet to get it checked out. |

| How old are the babies when they had their dew claws removed? I am sorry they are having a problem....sounds like that one has an infection brewing....needs to be seen by a vet. I do my own dew claws and I do them early, when the baby is 1-3 days old....never had a problem, and there is no pain involved post removal....removing dew claws after they are older, is painful. |
