| Say a prayer please Charlie goes for his BATs and urinalysis tomorrow. this will be the first set done since we started the meds and new diet last July. I am nervous He seems fine plays eats pottys normally but its the #s.... they will tell me the truth. I was told to fast him for 12 hours so he has about 5 minutes left to eat. I assume water will be ok as it wouldnt have an effect on the bile acid. I tried to call the vet office but had to work late and missed them before closing. I guess I could pull up the water but I would hate for him to be thirsty. if anyone know the answer for sure I would appreciate it. its gonna be a long couple days thats for sure. anyway please say a prayer we would appreciate it.

| Hope that all goes well with Charlies tests. I did not know the answer to your question...found this website that says no food or water: Preparing a dog for a bile acid test | VCA Animal Hospitals This one does not mention water: http://petloversvet.com/link/pat_hea...mBileAcids.pdf Hopefully someone will see this and have the right answer. Calling an EC as someone suggested might be a good idea.

| I fast of food and water for BATs so there's no gallbladder spasms or start of digestion. Check with your vet however.

| Praying for Charlie Brown and improved test results. There are a few different protocols floating around as to what is best for a BAT, some vets don't fast at all, some feed a high fat meal after the first draw, others feed the regular diet. So your vet would be the only one that would give the right answer, depending on which protocol he is following. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Kathy & Tinkerbell

| The drop off Well, I have dropped charlie off at the vet. First and foremost water was fine to give him they just didnt want him eating. I made sure to make the appt for the B.A.T when the surgeon who did his bladder stone surgery was there (that was important to me) She has gone way above and beyond in helping me with Charlie. They weighed him and he is 12.4 lbs (1 pound more than in July) this is good because I was worried he wasn't eating enough I told her how he eats and she says he is just a "social eater" LOL. She said that his coat was wonderful allot better than when she has seen him last and his eyes are nice and clear she says this is a good sign that his liver is filtering well and not having to overwork. Now Charlie wont eat the dog food that they normally use for this test so I always have to bring in some kind of protein today was Ham and man was Charlie excited about that LOL poor thing was so hungry I bet he wont even taste it. I will have spaghetti ready for him when he gets home. He loves his pasta. They said I should have the results back Monday or Tuesday so I guess I worry until then. I know I know the vet said he looks great but you just never know with these little guys. I worry about that urinalysis cause they have found crystals on the last one however that was shortly after stone surgery the lactulose is supposed to help with that so keeping my fingers crossed there too. sorry didnt mean for this to be so long just stressed. thanks for the prayers Ill keep you updated as I get info.

| The pick up LOL I was able to get the urinalysis results today (I didnt know that would happen) his urines is very good no stones, crystals, blood or white blood cells they were very happy about this, his PH was slightly elevated but not as high as it was in July. (this is why we are on the lactulose) So good news on the pee pee Now we just wait for the blood work.
