| He fell on the tile floor I bought Buster to my moms yesterday and he gets all excited because he know that her dog is there for him to play with, usually he waits until I reach in and get him out of the carrier but yesterday he just couldnt wait. He fell from about a chairs height onto the kitchen floor. He screamed so had I felt sooo horrible. I was hysterical. My mom checked his little legs and rubbed his little head and he stopped after couple minutes and then went right back to what he came there for ..to play. He didnt throw up, didnt stagger, nothing out of the ordinary. Im just nervouse...he was fine all last night and all this morning and afternoon..playing and barking and digging and begging for treats((which I have given him a million of cause I feel so bad))! Do you think I should take him to the vet to get checked out? Im so upset about this I feel like such a bad mommy. |

| He should be okay, when I first got Teddy, I had just got home from work, and he was really excited, well I picked up him up and some how he squirmed out of my arms and fell onto the floor. I felt so horrible, I thought I had hurt him really bad. He cried and I picked him up and told him how sorry I was and gave him lots of kisses. Your just over reacting, like any good mommy would. |

| It sounds like he's alright but I'd just watch him. Last year Pixie was knocked out cold (on a tile floor) by my sleeve Peke and I rushed her to the vet. Two blocks before the animal hospital she came to and was flirting with the driver of the car stopped next to us at a red light. She was checked out, had a slight concussion. I took her home and watched her, she was fine but it took me longer to recover. Jessica |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OH wow - Flashback - Chanel did that too !! Landed face/nose first on the tile after climbing up on my kitchen table - she saw me coming and jumped and I saw the whole thing....She screamed so bad - it was unreal...... her littls legs shot out in 4 directions and I swear I thought she'd have a broken back - I was fighting hysteria while I gently tried to check her out - then she stopped ...and was ok..... but what a huge scare it was - I was out of commission for that whole day worried about her and watching her - From what I went thru ...just keep a really CLOSE eye for signs of trauma to his head - I don't know how he landed but if he didn't get knocked out - that's a plus....poor baby - they are SO Fast and so wiggly sometimes - we feel so guilty..... but hopefully he's fine and just more scared than hurt ? |

| Mine did the same thing. I was in the kitchen, standing and holding him, and somehow he got his legs against my chest and pushed himself up and out of my arms. I would say he fell at least four feet onto the floor and against the refrigerator. It scared me to death. He got up and ran to his puppy bed a few feet away. I picked him up and put him on the counter to see if he could still stand and walk, etc. And, he could. A few mintues later, after the scare, he was running around and playing as usual. He didn't hurt himself --- but weren't we lucky! He didn't need to go to the vet. He could easily have broken bones or landed on his head and have had brain damage, etc. etc. etc. How lucky we were! I hold him even more carefully and tightly now. I sure don't want that to ever happen again. These little dogs are tiny little wiggleworms, and we may not think so, but they are also very strong. He was wiggling in my neighbor's arms a few days ago, and she said she could hardly keep hold of him. I know what she meant! Carol Jean |

| Chloe' My poor darling fell just last night!!! She fell out of my arms being a wiggle worm and screamed out in pain for several seconds...I was horrified and felt so sick as I rushed her to the vet...she checked out fine, no broken bones or fractures and was put on some anti-inflammatory medicine for pain and swelling...we were lucky too!! A week ago I became a new mommy with a 3 month old 1 lb 7 ounces princess and I'm going out of my mind with worry! I'm constantly watching her to make sure she's okay because she's just so small! I'll have to get used to her size but thank goodness she checked out fine! She's acting normal and playing as usual! Needless to say this mommy gave plenty of puppy kisses!!! I'm sure your baby will be just fine! Good Luck! |

| Small dogs I know it's easy to freak out when our babies are hurt (I have an entire food chain in my pet managerie so they usually hurt each other), but you have to remain calm to save yourself some vet bills! I too used to freak out and would rack up $200 vet bill for an injury that was fine by the time we got there. If she hurts herelf again, just cuddle her for a bit and then let her go. Make her walk around and see if everything is working. If something is broke, you will probly know it. If you know she hit her head (hard, not a simple bump), take in her in. Period. If you've never had a small dog before, here is a peice of advise that may save your sanity in the long run. Relax and don't over-coddle your baby. We like them because they are so small and cuddly, but you will create a monster if you are too over protective. The longer you have one (a little dog) the better you'll get at assessing injuries. But be calm, you have to for the dog (I had to hold my dogs broken limp body after she got hit by a car and I know my calm, rational demenor kept her going...or maybe I just tell myself that. Had I freaked out, she would have been off for the worse) Last edited by lilnic; 02-01-2006 at 01:06 PM. |

| I used to get hysterical even if coco would jump and it SEEMED like she could've been hurt. Meaning she wouldn't cry or scream, I would..lol..because I assumed it hurt. She always tries to jump on the couch and off the couch and out of excitement she sometimes knocks herself a bit on the table. I still freak a little but not hysterical. Now I just rub the spot that hit the table and kiss her a lot and she's always ok

| Glad all is well...Little Mojo has fallen twice and both times, I have "freaked out". The first time, we rushed him to the vet and that bill was expensive!! (x-ray, pain meds, emergency visit).....and there was nothing wrong, nothing cracked, nothing.... The second time, he fall (yes, he's a wiggle worm) but we watched him and he was fine. We watched him, etc. and there were no signs. It is hard to watch them go through that though....and it is really hard to see it happen has you try to get there before they fall. I know a lot of people say to keep them on their leash and on the ground so these things don't happen, but there are times that things happen. I think our little ones are pretty tough too.....I know they are small and you have to be very careful, but boy, I have read so many posts on how tough these little ones are and what fighters they are!!!

| My Gracie waas getting a bath and i turned for one minute and she jumped out of the sink and slipped then crashed down to the ceramis tile kitchen floot and sqeeled till i picked her up and cuddled her and cried with her for a hour. but she was OK. I really do believe these little bundels of fur and nto as subtle as we think. it looks like it happened to us all. |

| But then there is the one where you're SURE nothing happened... Wosie had fallen off our bed at least a half dozen times onto the carpeted floor with no harm done. Then one night in November she SLID off, grabbing the quilt all the way down, and I turned just in time to watch her go, thinking to myself in that split second, wow she's falling so slowly, no WAY will she get hurt" and then I hear KI YI KI YI KI YI!! Sure enough, she caught her leg on the hard edge of my box spring and broke her growth plates off the bone! Emergency vet/xrays/surgery/looooonnnnngggggg recovery, DANG!! She's good now, and won't go NEAR the edge of the bed!

| Sounds like your puppy is fine to me. I wouldn't take him to the vet unless you see a problem (which you probably won't). Perhaps this time you can save your money and buy your dog some bows and clothes. My pup did the same thing and scared me to death. But he survived and has gone on to do a hundred other things that scare me. They are just like little children!!! Carol Jean |
