| Diarrhea dry nose So my ill yorkie has had it for 3 days. I took him to vet in the morning he got pills and a shot. But he has been licking his nose all day. It's really dry should I be worried I don't know if the pill and shot caused for him to do that |

| I was hoping some of our breeders or more experienced with sick dog care would respond but none seem to be on the site so I'll try to help by saying that if he's licking so much it is pretty constant, I would get that vet on the phone and ask about it. Maybe he is dehydrated, running fever, dry from medication, fluid loss due to vomiting/diarrhea or something like that and his nose being dry for one reason or another, is just licking it to moisten it. But if he's doing it constantly, I'd have a vet check him to see what is going on. Sometimes dogs get into OCD-like, repetitive, inexplicable behavior when something is wrong and they don't know what else to do. When any dog gets into any involuntary or constant, repetitive behavior he can't seemingly control, he goes to the vet, day or night, is my rule of thumb. But if he's just doing it occasionally, he's just trying to keep his little nose from drying out from one of the above causes more than likely. Did you vet suggest giving some extra fluids via a needleless syringe into the pocket side of the mouth occasionally? Might try a touch of vaseline on the nose and getting a bit of water into him.

| Thanks for the tips. I was thinking he started with the dry nose today because of the meds that he got for the diarrhea but minutes after I posted this he stopped licking it and its not dry anymore. I didn't call vet since he is closed but will call tomorrow just to ask if that's normal. |
