| Flagyl side effects I'm worried! My 3 yr old 4lb yorkie has been on flagyl for over a week due to severe gastritis. Her dosage was 250 mg, half tablet twice a day. I rushed her to vet this morning due to her stumbling and loss of back legs control. I was immed freaking out thinking liver disease/shunt. My vet checked her for neurological problems and found none. He seems to think its a side effect from being on flagyl for a longer period than she has been on in past. He says in moderate or high doses this can occur. I'm freaking out thinking it might be permanent. He says he thinks she will be fine. I trust my vet, because she has been sick constantly since she was a puppy. I just though it would make me feel a lot more at peace with this if I knew if anyone has experienced this with their baby? Thanks |

| I have not had experience with this but found this website and it says it could take up to two weeks for the signs to diminish. Metronidazole for Veterinary Use Hope this helps.

I know with mine it has always been 1/4 tab 2x day. Also mine have never had any side effects from this at all.

| I am not a vet, and can not prescribe medications, but if I were you, just to be safe, I would be giving Milk Thistle (for dogs, NOT human grade....must be glycerine based) to help her liver clear the toxic dosage of the flagyl....... |

| Thanks knowing it will go away helps some. It just scary seeing her like this. She's alert seems perky and happy and totally unaware that she's unbalanced or that her legs aren't working properly. I just want this to go away quick |

| Also make sure you always give this medication with food, as it can cause tummy upset.

| It sounds like etro toxicosis to me. Not sure what the vet meant by no neuro problems. These are neurological deficits. .your pup should be fine. Is pup receiving supportive care? Seems like a very high doseto give all at once.
