| Two week old not nursing and weak I have a two week old that is not nursing today. Her mom had a c section and we lost four puppies and she is the only one to survive. She started out at three ounces and after three days at the same weight she finally started gaining. She weighs 8 ounces but today she is weak and will not nurse. My vet told me to get her warmed up and give her karo or sugar water and then get her nursing. She was breathing quick short breaths but seems to be breathing better now. I have given her some karo but she will not nurse. Her tummy appears to be full and I have some concern about her bowels. I have rubbed her bum with warm cotton and encouraged her mom to help but I have not seen anything. Please help |

| She is still with us. She is very weak and will not suckle. Her mom has milk but I can't get her to latch on. I have given her some formula with a syringe to keep her strength up. She will not suck on the syringe either but she will swallow. She was thriving and if she was nursing you could hear her being a little piggy. It has been very cold here but I have had her in my bedroom in a carrier surrounded by blankets. I did not have a heating pad on her. I should have given the fact that she is a single pup and now that she is older the mom has started to leave her more. |

| Weak puppy Please continue to try to get her to potty by rubbing and massage so that she urinates and has a bm. Also, do you have access to a pet store where you can purchase Esbilac, Just Born, Goats Milk, or some similar pet formula. Also, some nutri-stat or some type of supplement will give her the added calories to keep her going. You will just have to get a little Nutri-Stat on your finger and put in into her mouth and encourage her to swallow. Not very much at a time though. The Karo Syrup should help her with BM. I cannot use a syringe to feed the ones who won't suck. There is a big risk of strangling them and having the formula get into the lungs. I use a dropper that you can purchase at any drug store. Just the kind that you get with meds such as eye drops. Just slowly drop a couple of drops into her mouth at a time. You will have to do this every 30 minutes or so until you feel she is out of the woods and then you can do it hourly. If you are to save this one it will take a lot of effort and time on your part. If you can't do it all by yourself enlist the aid of a family member or neighbor for a few hours because it will take constant care. You do need a heating pad wrapped in a towel on low. Also a blanket completely covering her since she could get chilled from the air. I don't know if you breed and have had this occur before but I would also order some "Fading Puppy Formula" from online at "Natural Rearing". This has helped to save several weak puppies. This formula gives them enough nutrition from natural ingredients until you can get them going again and you can give it often. It doesnt go by weight of puppy and you can't give it too often. If I can help you please email me at Julianhoward@aol.com. I will be close to the internet today. Good luck and don't give up on her. She will be worth it. Julia

| I am feeding her a formula that i got from Pet Smart. Should I mix it with karo or anything? She likes to have her head stretched up. She stretches it up on the edge of the puppy bed or fold in the blanket. Every once in a while she will cry out similar to having a dream. She does not appear to be in pain. Is this behavior normal or is something wrong? What do I need to do to keep the mom from loosing her milk. I am praying the pup will pull through this and continue to nurse her mom. |

| Also get some BeneBac (probiotics) into the puppy.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | In addition to the excellent advice given above...do not under any circumstances feed a cold puppy. Wishing you all the best with the baby.

YOU ALSO NEED TO BE FEEDING AND PEEING AND POOPING THIS BABY, THEN PUTTING HER INSIDE YOUR BRA AND CARRYING HER AROUND IN THERE....SHE NEEDS THE STIMULATION, THE FEEL OF A WARM BODY NEXT TO HER....AND MOVEMENT AS YOU WALK. Be sure you do not drop her out thru the bottom of your bra....Have you gotten instruction on tube feeding your baby yet? Have you gotten the ingredients for the formula yet and started feeding her.....AFTER you have her warmed up.....????? | |

| I just came back from my vet. They gave her fluid under her skin and figured the correct dose of formula to give her. They put her on an antibiotic for her lungs. The store did not have any liver and they have ordered some for tomorrow. I have not been able to find any at any of the other stores. |

| Did they show you how to tube feed that baby? The correct dosage of formula, if you are giving ANY of the calorie dense formulas given by breeders that have saved many, many, many fading babies on this forum, it is 1cc per 1 oz of body weight, every 2 hours around the clock for at least 4 days. If you can not get liver, at the very least, start that baby on MY formula, which does not have liver in it......Did they say the baby had aspiration pneumonia? |

| They did not give me a tube to feed her with. They told me to keep feeding her the formula I had. We live in a tiny rural area and there is nothing available here except puppy formula. We were able to get some lamb liver and we have boiled it and I have syringed a tiny bit into her. Her tummy is really large and full so I am afraid to feed her much I think she will pop. I have tried to get her to pee and poop and I have not be able to get poop. She is very weak, I just gave her some karo syrup. She has at times had her mouth open gasping for air and she will cry. Do you think she is in pain. |

| Hold her close to you and love on her and shower her with kisses....keep talking to her, loving on her.....I dont think she is in pain....I think she is fighting to survive, fighting with every ounce of strength she has, and I think her struggle will soon be over.....I am so sorry...... |
