| 15 day old not putting weight on front paw! I have a 15 day old female who is not putting weight on her front left paw. She is the youngest and only girl in a litter of 4. She is the smallest but has been gaining weight at a steady rate (although the boys seem to be getting bigger faster) and was the first to open her eyes. I first noticed her not putting weight on her leg late last night and moving around a little awkwardly, but I wasnt sure and today she is the same. She will touch the ground with the paw put not put her full weight on the leg like she had been before. Should I take her to the vet? I am new at this and not sure what to do! Please help! |

| I am not sure with such a young pup... if she's not acting painful I would think you could wait as long as there is no swelling or discoloration, and if she's improving. If she's non weightbearing and painful (not eating, whining) I'd have her seen.

| When do you do your well baby vet checks on your pups after they are born? I do one within 3-4 days, then about every 2-3 weeks until they go to new homes...and inbetween if there is anything going on that is not normal. I suspect you are about to take your litter in for their second well baby checks....have the vet look at that foot then...perhaps xray it. It may just be how it was positioned during the time baby was being carried, but you want to be sure that is all it is. |
