| Callie's tooth chipped bad Well Callie had been acting off for maybe two days or so but was eating and drinking and I could not find anything physically wrong with her or so I thought. Well I went to brush her teeth tonight before her bath and had barely touched the back teeth on her left side and then she pulled away which is unlike her and then I looked at the tooth brush and there was blood on it so I looked in her mouth and it was coming from a back tooth after it stopped (it seemed like more then it really was I think) I could see her tooth is chipped and I can see a red spot in the middle of the tooth so I figure that's a nerve or vein and I know its gotta hurt so I held her for a few minutes trying to compose myself and told my mom and she said ok we need to call the vet ASAP in the morning try to stay calm. I feel so bad for her I should have looked better in her mouth then I did when she was acting off. I have apologized to her a million times. I feel so bad and I would have taken her to the er vet if she was showing pain but she just wanted to play with Sammy and go on as normal and the er vet is great but I hate the guy who helped us when we where there he acted like we woke him up or something so I would would much rather call her vet at 8 because they will get her in right away. I had picked up what I thought was both bully sticks because they where chewing on them earlier and I didn't want her hurting herself, not more then five minutes later I look and she is chewing on a different one she must have had hidden so I took that away. Are they going to have to take her tooth? Will they do it tomorrow so she is not hurting? I'm so worried they are going to have to take her tooth. If they have to take her tooth is it going to effect her a lot? My parents suggest I not feed her in the morning in case they need to put her under to take care of her tooth do you think that's a good idea? Sorry this is so long just worried about my baby. Her breath does have a slight smell to it does that mean its infected? It doesn't look swollen much if at all. Please pray for her.

| Callie girl...ohhhhh noooooo....I'm sure waiting till the morning will be fine in the meantime I wouldn't feed her; however, they usually plan surgeries and have set days to do them on, unless its an emergency. I have no idea what this tooth issue could be but I would think that this ranks high up there since there is exposure deep in the tooth. Stay calm, your a perfect momma and Callie knows it. I think under the circumstances your doing all you can. Keep us posted

| It's going to be ok. Broken tooth - no er unless it is some kid of extreme trauma/heavy bleeding. Yes, see the vet tomorrow. No need to rush in. They may pull it tomorrow, but almost certainly wil wait. They will put her on antibiotics if concerned about infection. Do you have pain meds on hand? Probably time to switch to chews that are easier on teeth.

| And feeding her soft food for a while should help painful chewing. Poor baby.

Dont know what you are feeding...if you are feeding kibble, just put some warm water on it to soften the kibble, rather than switching her to a soft, say, canned food.....that way you wont upset her gi system ..... | |

| That's how I fix Tibbe's food. Just pour boiling or very hot water on, let it soak, cool and then top it with some canned or not and he's set to go. Tibbe's likes lots of gravy so I put in a bit of water. He seems to really like it that way over kibble soaked in only a little water.

| Thanks guys. I do not have any pain meds on hand the ones I did have expired. She would not sleep past 5am this morning so I'm guessing it hurts pretty bad. I know it was not the bones that cause it I think when we where having crate issues that when she pulled the clip that was holding the zippers in her crate together that she bit it to get it off (that didn't work) because my mom was getting her blankets out to wash for me yesterday and found something hard that she says could have been a part of her tooth but didn't know that until I saw her tooth was broken and at that point it was gone. She is eating Acana so I will try to soften that rather then try a can food because I don't want to hurt her tummy or anything. I am still not gonna feed her until after the vet although she will not eat this early anyway.

| Thanks again every one. Vet gave us pain pills, antibiotics and an estiment for a dental. We asked if there is any way to keep the tooth and she said they can't do it but a specialist can. Closest one is Annapolis, md but we think we are going to contact one and get a consult. I would like for her to keep the tooth if at all possible.

| Oh my...bless Callie's heart. Taylor, you are a great mommy! If you weren't brushing her teeth like a good mommy does, you may not have noticed this until the infection got out of control. So, GREAT JOB!! I'll be watching to see what the specialist says. Until then, I'm happy that Callie has her meds and won't be hurting any longer.
