| Anyone have any ideas? - Sick dog This isn't about my yorkie and I haven't posted in a while but we have shih-tzu/bichon mix that had a UTI last May and today we noticed she started acting the same way (squat to pee and move forward and lay down and then move forward and squat again.) So we have been watching her for the past half hour. She came in the house, went in to the hallway and squatted and when she moved, I saw a light amount of blood (no pee). My husband is on his way to the emergency vet with her now. Is it possible this is still a UTI with different symptoms? Last year she had NO BLOOD. And she has tried to poop several times today. There is no blood in her poop. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Please keep Speedy in your thoughts. She is my husband's pride and joy. Thanks. Dianne

| Definitely possible it's a UTI with different symptoms. Our Boxer had blood once but no blood other times when she had UTI's. I hope your sweet girl feels better.

| Thank you so much for your quick response. I too am hoping it is simply another UTI. I just don't understand why she is getting another one (last one was May of last year. UGH!)

| You're welcome I have read a lot about UTI's in dogs. Make sure she always has clean water (not assuming you don't), probiotics help as well. If you search here you can find other threads about UTI's. I will pray for you all its hard when our fur babies aren't feeling well.

| Yes, it is possible. UT?is are very common, esp. for females. My guess is that they will do a urinalysis and they should do a culture. If it is a UTI antibiotics should take care of it. If the vet is concerned and/or the problem continues, diagnostic imaging will be needed to rule out some things (stones in particular). Whatever it is, it is very, very likely that she will be just tine.

| Just heard from my husband and they said it will be between $400-500 for tests. Doesn't include the antibiotics or special dog food (she was put on a prescription dog food for a couple months the last time she had a UTI. They are pretty certain it is a UTI. I will definitely look into the probiotics. Never knew about it.

| ER vets are so expensive! I am glad it's a UTI and nothing more serious. I am sure with the meds she will be fine in no time. We mix a teaspoon of plain non-fat Greek yogurt with Georgie's food once a day. I am a big believer in probiotics. Hope she feels better quick!

| I just recently started putting a tsp. of cottage cheese in her food as well as Toby's about two days ago. Surely THAT didn't stir things up or could it? Morgan, I don't mean to sound stupid but do you use the yogurt as the probiotic or do you purchase it somewhere? Do you prefer the tablets over the liquid? If you purchase it, what brand do you buy? I "googled" probiotics for dogs" and of course they all want you to buy their product.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | A great probiotic is acidophilis. You can get it at the health food store. Another thing you could do is wipe her bottom. They roll on the floor, the squat it pee. Dirt and bacteria gets in there. Also 6. Cranberry tablets are good at preventing UTI's. Get it from the health food store. Cranactin(regular) is a very good one. Use one capsule per 20 pound pup. Remember too much cranberry can cause stones so you have to be careful. Good luck. I hope she gets better soon

| Thanks Teri. I'll be sure to check them out. Last year it cost a little over $1,000 for her UTI and she didn't even go to the emergency vet! Poor girl. It's so sad when a dog has something wrong and can't tell you. She never yiped or whined and was her normal bubbly self up until about two hours ago. This dog lives to play and she's been her normal playful self all through this.

| Speedy is home from the vet and does have a UTI. They put her on Clavamox which is what she took last time. Hopefully it will start giving her some relief soon. She didn't have any stones thank god! Will follow up with regular vet tomorrow to see if they want her to go on the prescription food for a while. I am feeding NOW which I just transitioned to about a week ago. Surely the food did it cause it to flare up. Anyone have any pros or cons about the NOW grain free food?

| Now if I can only find that brand of yogurt in the St. Louis area. Will have to do some research. Speedy is home from the vet and they did find some crystals in her urine but no stones. She is on Clavamox. Another question I now have is I'm assuming she is really irritated because sometimes (not always) I am finding drops of blood where she has walked. I'm assuming that is because she has no control yet and is still pretty irritated. Not sure how long it will take for the meds to get in her system but hopefully after they do, the blood drops will stop (if they don't we will be off to the vet for sure). And she never pees on the floor, always on the pee pad or outside and I am seeing where she has pottied in weird spots. So whenever she gets up and moves around I'm right behind her with cleaning supplies. Poor baby. She is such a good dog normally.

| It only took a couple of doses before our Boxer Coco showed improvement. If you can't find Fage look for Chobani. I hope Speedy feels better soon. She's a doll baby
