| Louie2012 Louie is 7 years old and very energetic and playfull. He is undergoing some illness which has not been diagnosed yet. 3 Vets and not answers. 1- Blood work-negative, worm test-negative 2- gave him metronidazole 250 mg GI upset and pepcid, no change 3- Urinalysys-negative, ultrasound-negative, gave him tramadol for pain Symtoms: wakes up morning okay for 1 hour then gets very low key and uncomfortable (can't stay in one position for very long) I am giving him now the tramadol, takes about an hour, then he is a bit more responsive. But in the evening he goes back to being unfortable. He looks like he's in pain and trembles a bit. Wants only to be picked up. He eats and does his potty normally. He won't jump on or off sofa anymore, does not want his treats in morning before the pain pill takes over. At a lost, don't know what to try next. please if anyone has any insites help. |

OMG!!!!! This is what I am going through with Brandi except she has these "episodes" several times a month not everyday. She also has recurring urinay tract infections. She just had a bile acid test done and her numbers were off the chart at 139. She had a ultrasound done but the results were inconclusive. The vet put her on lactulose, another medication that I can't remember how to spell and a low protein diet. We'll see what happens. It's been two weeks and no "episodes" yet but that doesn't mean anything. If she doesn't have any episdoes in a 30 day period, then we could be making some progress. I've taken Brandi too 3 different vets including the specialist who ordered the bile acid test. He said she had only one of the symptoms for liver shunts so the other vets probably didn't think to order the tests and neither did I. He also stated that IBS could be another possible cause for her discomfort because of the fact that it's the only time she eats grass during the episodes and when she poops, it relieves her discomfort most of the time. Everything you are going through I have been there. I've had all the same test done several times including two ultrasounds. The bile acid test were the only things that showed up anything and even that was inconclusive for liver shunts. My vet is on vacation, he will call to discuss what the next steps are when he gets back. He is definitely wants to keep her on the medication at least for 30 days to see if there is any improvements. I will definitely be monitoring this thread to see if anyone comes up with possible suggestions I can ask my vet about. Last edited by yavenay; 11-16-2012 at 09:22 AM. | |
