| Anal gland surgery I'm so worried my Petey is having surgery Tuesday to remove anal glands. They have been infected and bleeding off and on for 3 weeks now. He has been on antibiotics during this time. They keep filling back up and he is licking his bum constantly. I feel so bad for him. I'm scared he is 12 yrs old. The vet says this is what needs to be done since he isn't getting better. I've read some of the posts on here and am so nervous. Keep us in your prayers. |

| I have never heard of that surgery, I'm so sorry you and your pup have to go through that. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I will keep you both in my prayers. Nikki had an abscess of his anal glands but it cleared up with antibiotics so surgery wasn't necessary. He will probably feel so much better after a few days. As long as your vet does the pre surgery blood work he should do fine with surgery. It's so hard to see them go through health issues.

| Are they removing the glands completely or just ecacuating them and removing inflamed tissue? Either or I hope the procedure goes well and please update afterwards. Welcome aboard YT btw.

| Thank you'll for your prayers and words of encouragement. Petey came through the surgery fine. Dr. Said the one gland was real infected the other not as bad. Last night was a tough one. I bought one of the Comfy cones but about 4 this morning he managed to reach back far enough to lick. So back on with the vet's e-collar. This morning he tried to climb over me and started bleeding. So back to the vet we went. I put cool cloth on it so it stopped. No damage done. So much for me sleeping on floor with him. We go back Friday for them to wash his bottom up more. I have a large 26" crate I'm putting him in when I can't stand over him since also is trying to scoot. Talk to you later |
