| Rescued 8 week old puppy vomiting bile I saw an ad on Craigslist last night in a town not too far away where a person had an 8 week old puppy that was unable to eat and would vomit every time it did, so I replied and started asking her questions hoping that I may be able to help her with the puppy. She stated that she could not afford to take it to the vet again and that it was dying. She stated that she would take it to the vet today but would euthanize it rather than allow them to draw blood to see what was wrong. To make a long story short I told her that if she would surrender the puppy to me that i would take it to the vet which I did today. The puppy is hospitalized at this point receiving IV fluids and they will be drawing blood as soon as they get some fluid in her. She is small and apparently has been vomiting on/off for several weeks. They bought this puppy when she was 5 weeks old and the first week had her on a puppy milk and at 6 weeks they switched her to whole food and that is when the vomiting started along with her weight loss. They have had her on Nutra-cal but she was dehydrated when she was at the vets office this morning. I am looking for any help or suggestions on what this could be. Thanks so much for any help. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh wow, 5 weeks? I thought 6 weeks was the minimum by law in most states. Of course, for the toy breeds that's way too young. I wonder if you can find the name of the breeder, it would be great if you could report her, also selling to someone who can’t afford vet care is horrible! Anyway, good for you for helping this puppy. It sounds like she was switched to whole food too soon, what is whole food anyway? I've read that some breeders mix a special milk with kibble, because puppies that young can't chew yet. Hopefully, a breeder will give you more information, most pet owners don't know much about a puppy that young. Bless you for what you are doing!

| This is so sad. I am seeing more & more posts recently about pups as young as 5-6 weeks old going to their new homes...what's going on? To the op, you are a saint for taking that baby & giving her vet care. I hope she pulls through, sending prayers.

| Why do people that can NOT afford to provide care for a puppy, even purchase one in the first place....where do they think the $$$$ is going to come from for food, medical care, etc....???????? |

| I told told the lady this morning that selling a pup at 5 weeks is horrible and that no reputable breeder would ever do such a thing. I tried questioning her as much as I could about where this pup came from, as there where no papers with her. They gave me all her paperwork from the vet that they had took her to and their name and personal information is on all that. At this point I am more concerned with this puppy. The fact that she has made it this long gives me some hope concerning the circumstances that she has been under. My vet will do lab and IV's and maybe an xray and some Reglan. Keep your fingers crossed that it's not something like a shunt. I am suppose to call at 6Pm to see how she is doing. BTW she is a very nice looking little dog. I see from the paperwork that the previous owner declined just about all care. They would have let her die. No labs, no Reglan, no Xrays. The only thing they did was a parvo and a fecal test. |

| 5-7 week old pups can't tolerate canned food, they just simply can't digest it. Hoping it's not a shunt & she'll show signs of improvement after getting the meds & iv.

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Bless your heart for trying to save that baby. The previous owners should be ashamed of themselves and the breeder for letting a pup go that young. Hopefully it isn't too late to save her. Poor baby, what a rough start....
