| Leaking Urine Hi, it's been a very long time since I've been here but I have a problem. My little red headed girl Nikki is getting old, she will be 11 on Thanksgiving and she is having some health problems. Nikki is at my side no matter what I'm doing or in my lap if I'm sitting. Here is where the problem comes in, if she is laying on my lap not sleeping just comfortable getting petted after a while I feel my leg getting wet from urine leakage. Now she has started doing it on the bed (she sleeps with me) I've started putting a water proof mattress pad on that side of the bed on top of the sheets, but if there is a space between me and the pad that's where she'll get trying to stay close to me and ends up wetting on the sheets. I am sure she is sleeping when this happens because I woke up the other night and found the pad wet and she was still sleeping laying it. I'm going to try making a place for her on the floor but don't know how that will work. She has been to the vet and all kinds of blood test done but all the vet says is she might be in the early stagges of Cushings. I would like to know if any of you have had this problem, sorry this is so long. Thanks Larry |

| I don't know much about it but my daughter had a dog that leaked like that. Her vet gave it some meds and it stopped it. It was on the meds for several yrs. |

I also have my Allie who is only 4 and she has developed urine leakage. Both of my girls were put on the Drug called Proin Drops and this made the issue go away. Your Vert will have to special order this. It is not all that expensive. I am actually ordering mine from Fosters and Smith, you do need a Vet RX for this. Your Vet should also know about this drug. In the mean time can your sweet girl wear panties??

Sweet baby girl! Please check with your vet about the meds that have been mentioned....and you can order disposable diapers for her...best prices are from PetEdge....these work super and I use them on my 3 girls that are too tiny to spay....to protect my stuff when they come in heat. You can also buy you a cute pair of panties that have plastic lining inside...you put a feminine pad inside there to catch the urine, and just change out the pad as needed. Personally, I like the disposible diapers....and then I put ruffled little panties that I had made for them, over the diaper! Too cute! | |

| Our sweet Charlie boy did that off and on for the last few years of his life. The vet had us switch him to Prescription Diet K/D (for kidneys), we did a combination of both hard and soft food. It really did help. We too kept a water proof pad and blanket on "his spot" on our ottomon, as well as one on the bed, where he slept with us. Someone told me about belly belts too, which may help (though I can't comment, as we never resorted to using those). Good luck and take care.

| Hi all and thanks for the replys. I talked to the vet today and ask about the Proin, she said we'll try it for 14 days 5.5 mg every 8 hours, then see how she is doing. Nikki just came off taking prednisone she said that could have made it worst. Hope this works she wasn't very happy about having to sleep on the floor last night but at least the cat laid with her. Also have you had the Cushings Test done on her yet? Also keeping your baby in my thoughts that she will be ok.

| I agree get her to the vet and have her checked out. They make disposable diapers for little dogs. I have also read that you can cut a regular baby diaper to make it work on a small dog. |

| If she was on pred for a long period of time then any Cushings symptoms she had may go away after she's been off the pred for a bit. Long term pred use will cause cushings so depending on when she was tested, she may have to be retested to get a true reading but she will need to be off the pred for awhile before being retested. Also besides the proin, there is phenalpropanalamine (sp?) & is given once a day. Last edited by lillymae; 10-08-2012 at 11:05 PM. |

| She was only on the pred. for 10 days, she had a cough that didn't want to go away but she finished that on Sunday. I started her on the proin yesterday things are looking promising it has really slowed down her peeing and she didn't do anything last night but she will sleep on the floor for a few more nights. | with prednisone it is only a quick fix steroid, it masks the symptoms and temporarily gives a quick fix and shuts down the immune system. Ask your vet is there some other fix |
