| Yorkie eye rash?? My 3 year old yorkie has recently been scratching at his eye. At first I thought he was just itchy but in the past few weeks he has developed a redish ring around his eye that he constantly scratches at. I read online that cucumber juice can help with the itchyness but I am not sure what to do! I am taking him to the vet but his appointment is not till next week so I just want to know what I could do at home to soothe his itchyness a little or even to cure it if possible... Thanks in Advance!! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | He's not holding it closed is he? If he is, you gotta take him in asap - bc that can mean eye damage and/or corneal abrasion (extremely painful!). I've seen this kind of 'red ring' thing on Wylie before - and it has always required prescription ointment or drops. I still have these meds on hand, so if it were me, I'd have the luxury of using a bit of them if I had to wait for a vet appt. BUT...when it has to do w/ the eye, I'm hesitant to recommend anything for you to use in the meantime bc you don't know what's going on, and therefore you don't know what could make it worse. What I'd do is call the vet, ask for a tech, and ask them what you could get at a drug store until the appt so that he doesn't open the skin near his eye. A warm compress might feel good, if you can keep it on.

| Eye So sorry for your poor baby. Mine has the same issue, but the scratching could be caused by many things. If it is at all possible please try to get to see a vet ASAP, as suggested in the above post. When diagnosed, he will probably be given prescription meds. Again I would not attempt to self treat. Hoping he gets better soon, it is so distressing for him and you. |

| Do you think it could possibly be pink eye? I agree with the other posters, I think you should take him to a vet asap, any serious eye issues that are not taken care of right away can possibly lead to blindness! Good luck! |
