| My Yorkie has a cold My 2 yr old yorkie, Scooby appears to have a cold. His bark sounds pathetic, its squeaky and after barking he has trouble swallowing, like he has a sore throat. He laid around much of the morning but seems to be much better this evening. Was wondering if there is something I should do for him and should I keep the 7 week old away from him? Thanks |

Do you have any liquid cherry-flavored children's benedryl on hand? You could give some of that to see if it alleviates the throat. Or even a tablet form? Here are dosing instructions. http://www.geocities.com/angeljulie2/firstaid.html Perhaps you need to hit the vet with both of them tomorrow. I don't know about separating them. It doesn't sound like a cold to me, but it's hard for me to say.

| Ah, gee, he may have a cold afterall. I'm sorry. It sounds like you've got double trouble tonight. Let me know as soon as you can how they both are doing.

| Thanks I will, my husband just went out for the benadryl. Scooby seems much better this evening, he has successfully emptied his toy box into the living room! I haven't mentioned I also have an elderly poodle with heart failure. My home is slowly turning into a doggie hospital....what is so sad, .... I am a nurse consultant who freaks when my pups/babies get the first sign of illness. I guess people can fend for themselves! |

| Yes, people can fend for themselves. I'm like you when they're sick. I've been through two congestive heart failures with two chihuahuas in the past. It was rough, too. I feel for you. I was going to say that I've had really good luck with the liquid benedryl. I've never used to tablets for obvious reasons. I hope it helps you some, too.

| Sorry, to hear that Scooby isn't feeling well today... Hope it is just a cold that passes by quickly but do keep an eye on little Lola being she is sooo tiny. Have a good trip and I will keep your furkids in my thoughts!
