| Diahrrea Hi, My 6 month old male has had the runs all day today.. pooping all over the place... I noticed that it is dark in color, like dark green to black...and runny. I havent changed his food or noticed him eating anything unusual. He is playing and not acting sick. Any advice? Thanks.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Oooh another.....please be sure he drinks and stays hydrated. If he stops eating give him nutrical so he does not become hypoglycemic. If he gets droopy rush him to the Vet. It does not take more then a few hours for these little guys to get very very sick.Black and sticky is intestinal blood....not serious in itself but destabilizes their metabolism. Hope he is feeling better....quickly

| You can use pepto-bismol. See dosing instructions at the following link: http://www.geocities.com/angeljulie2/firstaid.html

| Stormy - Why would you say "intestinal bleeding" is not serious in itself. I would think that it certainly can be - depending on what is causing it. Carol Jean |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | It I were in your shoes - I would call the vet if it's as bad as you say;... just to be on the safe side - I know they always say come in...but sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry and Good luck ! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | [QUOTE=SnowWa]Stormy - Why would you say "intestinal bleeding" is not serious in itself. I would think that it certainly can be - depending on what is causing it. Carole Jean....what I said, or meant to convey was for her not to panic over intenstinal bleeding / bloody stool because it is very common in Yorkies with any type of intestinal upset. Unlike persons where more often then not it is reason to panic. I have had many issues with this type of thing and been told by several vets that it is not in itself a cause for alarm. Of course you must take the dog to the vet for evaluation. They usually need to be treated with Flagyl and antibiotic. Most importantly is to keep the dog hydrated because the dehydration is more dangerous then the illness that causes it.

contained in Pepto Bismal was not good for the dog and to use Kaopectate instead which does not contain that ingredient. I will choose to listen to my vets advice....I passed it on as a suggestion only.

Are you not aware that kaopectate also contains salicylate? That is what I'm saying.

| Try plain cooked white rice before you try drugs. It works very well.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Postings are just a matter of sharing information , and suggestion. Everyone needs to make their own decisions with the assistanace of their Vet. RICE was an excellent suggestion that was offered here.
