YorkieTalk Newbie! | Pregnant Yorkie Crisis I have a pregnant yorkie that is about 4 lbs (before being bred), and I ran into a problem with her during her last heat cycle. We recently got a male schnauzer/chiwauwau mix. My brother was in charge of watching the two while I was out of the house (the yorkie had on a diaper for safety precautions) and the schnauzer mix ended up breeding her. I of course, instantly freaked out, because I know IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA to breed large males and small females. My grandmother is a dog breeder, and thinks that she is having a false pregnancy. She didn't start showing until about 2-3 weeks ago, and I mean she blew up in the time span of about 3 days. She had been pregnant before, but with a yorkie smaller or about her size, and it was her first time. She had some complications and sadly none of the pups servived. I'm mostly wondering when would be the best time to schedule her for a c-section. The last time she had pups was a year ago, and she went into labor about a week or so early. I'm a little overly dramatic and frigtened for her, and would love to hear any opinions on the matter. |

| I would go to your vet for an exam, instructions, and to plan a course of action. Your girl is at serious risk. In the future, please know that diapers are not mating preventatives. Dogs will tear them off easily to mate. Post in the breeding section of YT for responses from experienced breeders.

| You have very good reason to be concerned for your little girl. The best option would have been to have her spayed right after her heat cycle. When was she bred? It is much riskier for a small bitch to have pups because her uterus can rupture and/or she could require a c-section. You really need to talk to your vet and follow his advise. Please keep us posted on how your little girl does.

| The only way to prevent breeding is to spay and neuter. Please talk to your vet about what has happened. Is there a reason you didn't spay and neuter your dogs?

| Has she had an x-ray ? You need to take her to the vet & see IF she's PG or not. If this were my 4 lb dog I would absolutely NOT be breeding her. This girl NEEDS to be spayed ASAP. She lost all her pups the last time so breeding her again could turn out the same OR it could be her loosing her life. Simply NOT worth the risk. I Pray for the sake of this poor pup that your Grandmother is rite & she's having a false PG. |

| Your grandma should also tell you your female is underweight for breeding safelt by one pound...she ahold be spayed immediately considering any mismake can be terminated during the spay. Also spay your mix.
