| Coughing **HELP** My 15 week old yorkie just startedf coughing 2 days ago. It sounds like she is trying to cough up a hair ball or something. Any idea what this might be? |

| Is she coughing all the time. It could be kennel cough. I would take her the vet so they can rule that out. If she has it it has to be treated with medication.

| It could also be where the treachea is collapsing....mine will occasionally do that and I just pet them (not on their throat) and tell them it's ok, and they stop. They usually do this when they are really excited or in my Cini's case, when she drinks water. If it is a continous thing, I think I'd call the vet. If it is occasionally it's what they call reverse sneezing and it's normal. |

| She is not doing it all the time only once in a while. I think I will take her to the vet and see what it is. If it is reverse sneezing will it go away?? |

| If its reverse sneezing it doesnt go away but they just do it sporadically. It doesnt affect their health.

| coughing Hi. I just got my 12 wk old almost two weeks ago. I took him to the vet two days after I got him and he was okay. Then, a week ago he started doing the hairball sounding cough and I got so scared that I rushed him to the animal hospital. They said it was probably kennel cough, but could be pnuemonia, I should watch to make sure he keeps eating and is still playful and not coughing up any mucus stuff. He is on antibiotics now, but he still sounds pretty bad to me. Good luck. |

| Backward sneeze (dry air / humidifier)? If your yorkie has periodic backward sneezing or "hurfing" episodes, but otherwise remains playful and is eating well, then this is fairly common. A backward sneeze does not cause any harm and does not have a cure. However, factors contributing to it could be exposure to pollen, or if the dog's throat is dry. I believe the recent drop in outside temperatures is also causing quite a drop in indoor humidity (cold windows act like dehumidifiers) Since, we are having this sneezing problem with Sparkles, we have put a small humifier in her area and are running a larger one for the rest of the house. I'll let you know if it seems to help over the next few days. |

| I just got my dog yesterday(flew from miami to lax), and she happens to have the same problem, during the whole day she seems to do it about 3 times... I have no idea what it is but from what i read here it might be the back sneezing. He also seems to be doing this while hes asleep. |
