My furkids Donating Member | I have 2 sick furbabies Started with Lillie very early Saturday morning while we were camping...she started with diarrhea and vomited once...yellow bile. I thought maybe she just needed to eat something...She didn't have much of an appetite and boiled hamburg and rice and fed her that....diarrhea still wouldn't go away...matter of fact it was getting worse...now it is (sorry gross) slimy and gel like and smelled horrible. We were leaving Sunday morning and I couldn't wait to get her home,....well low and behold when we got up Sunday morning Bentley (my puppy) started with loose stools...nothing like what Lillie had though...so I put him on the hamburg and rice too...I dropped off a stool sample for Lillie or Bentley...didn't know which one did it, and it came back positive for bacteria...Where Bentley wasn't that bad the vet wanted to wait to see if maybe it was caused from stress..Bentley HATES riding in the car and shakes like a leaf....Lillie has been on the meds since Tuesday so she is on the mend..So, I thought ...good time to give them all there after camping baths.....WRONG! Bentley started the gross pooping like Lillie had only his had blood in it...called the vet AGAIN! She said she didn't need a stool sample that he had what Lillie has...UGH! The meds worked pretty quickly on Lillie...hoping they work that quick on my little man...They are not themselves and I HATE seeing them like this,,...We are supposed to be leaving for maine Sunday...I hope they are back to normal pooping by then or we aren't going

| Poor babies!!! Albon and Flagyl and Amoxicillin will usually stop this dead in its tracks....almost immediately....have to continue treatment for (depends on your vet!) 5-10 days. |

My furkids Donating Member | bacteria in their intestines. The vet said animals as well as humans have good and bad bacteria...when the good bacteria isn't there it causes all the symptoms i described. I feel so bad for them...although Lillie is better than she was...poop is starting to firm up again. she only started on the meds Tuesday night. I just gave Bentley his first dose

| So sorry they are both sick. Do you ever give them plain fat-free yogurt? I give it to mine occasionally and she loves it. That would help them.

My furkids Donating Member | thank you....I did ask the vet about yogurt...it didn't sound like she thought this was a good idea....I bought fortaflora for them. this is supposed to help with the diarrhea. I am going to ask about that again though

| That is the common cocktail they get for this particular issue....are you feeding raw food? I ask simply because I thought I had really stumbled on a gold mine of an idea on how to wean my babies with much less stress on both of us....I started them on raw food....almost killed them...little guts can not handle the bacteria in the raw diet at that age (10 weeks)....so I dutifully and ashamedly returned to my RC puppy kibble, soaked in warm goats milk, to initiate the transition from momma to saucer! |

| You say you went camping, did they get into any lake, river or pond water that they may have gotten into? I'm sorry they are both sick. Prayers they are feeling better soon.

| We posted about the same time and I missed this post. I'm really sorry they have giardia. The meds you got should take care of that. It is supposed to be zoonotic, so take care for yourself and your family as well. The fortiflora will be good for them.

We use stella and chewys because the test and control the bacteria balance. Plus handling raw meat with a new skin kid is too hard to do right now, I can't trust the dogs to keep it in their bowls and hand feeding three dogs is problematic right now.

| I sorry your babies are sick, its always especially harder when you have multiples. Did the vet say anything about probiotic yogurt for them? Great recipe...put yogurt in a cleaned out squeeze bottle, I used a mini heinz bottle, make yogurt drops size of dimes on parchment paper or wax on a baking sheet and freeze it at least overnight. Boiled brown rice and shredded chicken with a lil canned pumpkin is our tummy trouble cure all 3the day miracle here. Dogs can take pepto ask vet for dosage by weight.
