| I am bumping this thread so someone can help you. It's always a good idea to call the ER vet if you are unsure of what to do. How is she feeling now?

My very first Yorkie back in 1990, ate a raw boneless pork chop he grabbed from the botton shelf of the fridge, because I forgot to shut the fridge door. He got very sick from that.

| I had at one time used raw ground meat to transition my little babies (5 weeks old) from mommas milk to start textured food for eventual weaning....they LOVED it and I was so excited about how easy something I had always had problems with, was actually turning out to be! Well, in about 2 weeks, that entire litter became ill....come to find out, when they are THAT young, they do not have the intestinal flora to facilitate digestion of raw meat, and they all got a bacterial gastritis from that raw meat! This should NOT be a problem you will have! She may have a tummy ache from the amount she gorged herself on, and she may have some loose stools from the change in her diet, but I dont think she will have any other bad outcomes! You may want to call the vet and tell him what happened...if he is really pro-active, he may want to start an antibiotic just in case she has a problem with bacteria flourishing in her intestines, he may suggest yogurt over the next several days.) Little stinker!! I can just hear her now...."I have died and gone to heaven...momma has left me a whole pak of ground meat for me to enjoy, as much as I can possibly eat!!! Let me get right on this!!!" |

| That's a lot of ground beef for her size, I feed raw and at 5lbs Lexie eats about 3.8 oz a day. I know a lot people feed it with no problems but i don't feed raw ground beef because the process of grinding the meat exposes it to more bacteria. I wouldn't feed her anything else for the rest of the day and just allow it to digest. Keep an eye on her, if her poop is a little softer or she has some mild diarrhea that's normal, as beef is a rich meat. If the diarrhea continues or she starts to puke a lot then i would contact your vet. |

| That little stinker Hopefully all she'll have is a little tummy ache. I agree that your vet should be notified, he or she might have some ideas on how to make her feel better if she starts to feel sick. I hope that she will be just fine My Izzy has the cast-iron stomach and has eaten so many things, and thank God she's always been just fine. Luna, on the other hand, is smaller and will get sick from the slightest change in her diet. Luckily she's not a big chewer and if she finds something will carry it around but not chew on it Welcome to YT, by the way

| Is e coli. a problem or is that just a people problem? That would be my concern w/ ground meat. Also, it may have a lot of fat depending on the kind you bought. The extra fat might upset the tummy. If she has serious diarhea, not just a couple loose ones I'd take her. |

| I wouldn't worry about ecoli. I feed my dogs raw meat every day. The only thing I would say is that ground beef tends to have a lot of fat in it and you might wind up with some loose stools. She should pass it just fine though.... |

| I bet he had sweet dreams with his tummy full. If it had been spoiled ground beef that would be another story but fresh from the store I'm sure it would be fine except he is so little and the ground beef so much. If he has runny stools from it today or vomiting, I would run him to the vet, at his size he could dehydrate quickly.

Yorkie Talker | I was catching up on threads and smiled at this one because, the same thing happened to us. I went shopping couple months back and left the bags on the kitchen floor and went to the bedroom. I got back and she was busy int he bag eating some raw (meat) lamb mince from one corner of the pack (about a teaspoon full). I was worried about her tummy but she was fine. No runny poo or anything different.Little adventurer..lol |

| Last year I left a package of sausage on the counter, Cody is not that tall but a rather bigger boy, 12 lbs, yet he managed to get hold of the package, I went in the kitchen looking for him (after owning many yorkies I have learned, if they are not in your view they are getting into mischief) and found he had eaten half of one sausage link, I guess the package was close to the edge of the counter. I called my vet immediately, she told me to keep an eye on him, watch his stools which may be loose or diarrhea, if it is diarrhea and it continued to bring him in. I was in a panic, sausage with spices and so much fat, his first stool after eating the sausage was very soft, his 2nd bowel movement was normal. Since then when I am cooking or preparing food he is BANNED from the kitchen. Always call your vet for their advise.
