| Growth on Gigi's lip Hi everyone. I'm new here and could really use some words of wisdom from anyone who has dealt with a situation like mine... My little Gigi is a morkie and is only a year and a half. I noticed a white growth on her lip yesterday and took her to the vet today. The growth is white with a little bit of red around the edges. She is just as rambunctious as always and doesn't seem affected by it. The vet did a needle biopsy and is sending the lab results to a pathologist. The vet said he's never seen anything like this in a dog as young as Gigi before. He said it could be one of four things - the best case scenario a bug bite and the worst a mast cell tumor. I won't know until Tuesday. The thing that scares me the most is that in January, I noticed a small white mark on her lip but thought it was a scar. It wasn't raised and didn't resemble a growth. I don't know if it's linked but I'm scared that it is and it's been lingering for that long. The only thing keeping me sane is that I brought her in a day after noticing it...I'm just scared its been there longer than I think. If they have to remove it, they'll also have to remove part of her lip because of the location. Has anyone dealt with this with a young dog before? Any advice or opinions would really help me out. I'm freaking out and just want my little girl to be ok. Thanks everyok e. |

| Welcome to YT. I'm sorry to read about the possibilities involved in Gigi's lump. You should soon have an answer and hopefully it will be found that it is nothing to worry about. We'll keep your lil girl in our thoughts and hope for the best. I'm sorry I can't offer any wisdom.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! My old guy has a plasma cell tumor and it is harmless but it is more red and looked like a mast cell tumor but the pathology showed plasma. My 7 year old , Cali has a flesh colored growth with a little red on her head by her ear.I take her in Tuesday to get it checked out but i am hoping it is nothing serious. Hopefully Gigi's is a harmless growth and she will be fine. I will keep her in my prayers. They can get many different harmless growths but it's hard not to worry.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I just wanted to offer positive thoughts, and will keep your girl in my prayers. I've not dealt with skin cancer in a dog before(if that is indeed what it is), try not to worry too much. And mayhap that tiny scar you noticed in January had actually nothing to do with what she has now; ie her lesion.

| Thanks everyone, for all of your support. Hoping tomorrow comes back with good news. Her growth looks much worse today, but I think that's because of the prodding they did yesterday at the vet. I've been reading about NuVet vitamins and how it has done wonders for dogs with tumors/growths/cancer. Anyone ever used this before? |

| I hope you are given good news tomorrow . I have never used NuVet, so I can't help you there. Hopefully, someone on here has heard of it and used it and can offer recommendations to you. I'll keep your lil girl in my thoughts and prayers. I understand how you are feeling.

| It wouldn't hurt to even get a second opionion. I have a 4yr. schnauzer that has a fatty tumor on her chest. My vet said to leave it alone for now because it is not cancer and it would leave like a pocket there to remove it. I took her last Thurs. to the vet I got her from (raises and shows schnauzers) and he said she needed to lose some weight but as soon as we get her weight down he is going to take it out. He said it will leave no pocket when he does it. Check around and like I said it never hurts to talk to someone else, just to make sure what you are dealing with. Good luck with that baby and God bless. |

| We got the results back today. It's a mast cell tumor, but the doctor doesn't know whether it's benign or not. He said they have to remove the tumor and then test it to determine whether it's grade 1 (benign) or grade 2 or 3 (requiring chemo). My poor baby is only 1 1/2. I can't believe this is happening. Shouldn't the doctors know from the pathology whether it's benign or not? How invasive is her surgery going to be? Will she be in a great deal of pain afterwards? Any recovery stories would be really helpful. |

| I'm so sorry to read that, but you have yet to learn whether it is benign or malignant. As young as she is, I'm betting it is benign. I'll keep her in my prayers. I wish I could offer advice, but I have no experience with this. {{{{HUGS}}}}
