| So stressed shes sick? So I groomed my little girl Molli today, she has always been very stressed out by it. I got her when she was little but even then just the sound of the clippers made her shake and tremble. I've tried to associate treats and make it a good experience and it's gotten better but she still acts very scared. Today I shaved her for longer than usual, I was giving her a summer cut and after wards she acted very lethargic and kind of depressed. She threw up twice and is just still acting not herself. Shes just sleeping which if you know Molli, is a little worrysome. I worry she stressed herself out too much, I dont know what else it could be, she hasnt had any thing else diffrent. Can they get THAT stressed? And if so how do I make her feel better?

| How is Molli doing now ? Yes they can get that stressed but she should come out of it by morning & if not I would take her to the vet for a check up just to be safe. I hope she's feeling better by now. |

| She seems all better today. I guess it was stress, poor baby. I wish I could ease her worries about grooming. Maybe next time I'll shave her in steps, spacing them apart so she doesnt get so worked up? I dont know how else to make her be ok with grooming

| glad she is feeling better! Dexter has been TERRIFIED of grooming since i got him. shaving in steps can be a really good idea, especially since you said positive reinforcment has been improving her slightly. it has taken me 4 years of positive association with scissors to be able to give Dex a hair cut without him getting so stressed out that he bites. he now is at the point where he comes to me, head down and sad, and just sits veeeeeery still while i snip away for a short while and then give him a treat and a celebration. it takes about 3 days to give him a full groom! when he was at his worst, i would snip away one bit of hair and throw a huge puppy party with treats and leave it for a couple of hours and then do another snip and another celebration. it takes a lot of patience, but it can be done! taking it slow makes the stress not build up to a boiling point. good luck! |
