Dangerous to go to the Vet? Hi everyone. I've just been reading some of the posts and I'm kind of worried. I don't have a puppy yet, but I've been thinking about the vet visit. It seems like some puppies picked up Kennel Cough during the vet visit. I also worry about Parvo and other diseases that can be picked up a the vet. Is there anything I can do in the future to protect my puppy from this? I know at 8 weeks or more, they haven't had all of their shots and some diseases are airborne. Thanks everyone!

| Don't be afraid of the vets just take precautions. Do not let your puppy touch anything at the vets, especially the floors. I make sure my vet (or their assistants) or I do it, use the spray they have to clean the examination table and the scales. I always bring my little ones in a carrier and I don't let people pet them as I don't know why they are at the vets and maybe their dog is contagious. I realize some people might think I am over protective but I am certainly not going to be the cause of why one of my dogs or all of them got sick. Better to be safe than sorry. P.S. I don't take my dogs to dog parks either because of disease.

Your pup will get vaccinations for Parvo/Distemper. As long as he/she is not exposed to it before then, he? will be OK afterwards. Kennel Cough too if you request it. Thankfully, I do not have alot of experience w/ Kennel Cough so I am anxious to read these replys as well. Trixie was vaccinated for it once, right before we boarded her for 3 days the one and only time it was unavoidable.

vet Honestly, I doubt any of my dogs have ever gotten anything in the vets office. Parvo is not air-borne..we thought it was in the beginning and breeders were freaked out. I do not allow my dogs to be on the floor of the office..they are in a carrier. I do not let other dogs poke their noses in the crate or people..in fact I have the crate in my lap or the seat next to me..I ask the table be wiped with disinfectant if I do not see a vet tech do it after each dog..most vets are on top of these basis things. I take my shoes off before going back in the house..I wash my hands. I no doubt sound paranoid..but think of all the Yorkies I have had through my kennel/home in 30 plus years..and I have had so few illnesses. If one got sick, then I could have wound up with 10 to 20 sick. Believe me no one wants to care for 20 puking, pooping dogs.

LOL! I'm sure no one would want to deal with 1 puking Yorkie, let alone 20.

Our last vet visit was just for a check up but the next day both of mine got very sick , They was sick for 3 days. We always carry ours into the vet well the Yorkies anyways. We cant carry the bigger dogs. lol But Even though they both got sick and I do beleive they picked up a bug from there. We still take them back. They need their shots. But I always worry about them catching something from the vets office.

vet You might ask for the first appointment of the day on a Monday morning..if possible? I have you ever tried a mobile vet? I had a wonderful one in Md. She worked at the vets and did home appts also. The visit was $12 more then going to the vets, but everything else was the same...and she sent out bills at the end of the month..it was worth it to me at times.

Puppies gone Hello yorkie Community I am new to this so if Im doing this wrong Im sorry. But I have had My Yorkie for 2 years and I decided to breed her with my friends Yorkie and she got pregnant and she was about 50 days into her pregnacy, and on Tuesday I went to work and she went under my bed and came with no stomach and no puppies. My son was there in the room with her trying to get her to come from under the bed, (but he is not her favorite person) so she wouldnt come to him then he said you want to go outside then she came from under there, but he didnt see anything under the bed or anything wrong with her, but when I got home from work I notice her stomach was smaller and she was more active than she has been. Now its friday and she is back to her normal size. CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT HAPPEN ????

puzzling??? Welcome...you might want to post this question in the Breeders section also. If you were sure she was actually pregnant, then she may have aborted early and eaten them..Yes, it is very possible to abort pups and clean up the area and leave no evidence. The pups would have been very small. A show breeder friend who lived down the street from me had a litter of 4 from a lovely champion female..not that the title matters...but Sara ate 3 pups. They were 3 days old. One was buried in the bedding and survived. I saw the bedding and floor..not one spot of blood and other things to let you know what happened..in fact we torn the room apart positive the pups were hidden somewhere. I am sorry to hear this..but it is possible she was not pregnant. Around 50 days it is not unusal for any signs of a false pregnancy to disappear. Best wishes

The vet is not the only place you should be concerned. The groomer's is another place where your Yorkie can pick up something--like kennel cough, which is highly contagious. My groomer now requires proof of vaccines, and kennel cough vaccine is required in order to go to this groomer. (I am surprised it was not required long before....)
