YorkieTalk Newbie! | 12wk old won't drink water since vet gave her IV for dehydration- intestine problem My 12 week old Yorkie puppy will not drink water, has no desire. Barely eating food. We took her to vet, she had diarea with blood in her stool.Vet says she has Gastrointitis. He took an xray to rule out a blockage, then gave her IV fluids to hydrate her. That was Thursday- today is Sunday. Since he gave her the IV she has no desire to drink any water. She is on a diet of boiled chicken & rice pureed. She was drinking the chicken broth but not anymore. Barely eating now- we are forcing her to eat & trying to get water into her. She will eat the nutrical though.. She is also on oral antibiotic and pepcid ac. Has anybody experienced anything like this, I am very worried & will def be calling the vet in the am. He told me Yorkies are prone to these type of illnesses. Thanks -Sue |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | get a bottle of unflavored baby Pedialyte and give her at least 5 cc's every two to three hours, antibiotics kill appetite on pups, you must keep him hydrated. hugs, |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I hope your little one starts feeling better soon. Like Carmen said you need to get fluids in to her.

| Gizmo had the same thing happen to him last month. First doctor thought it was hemmorragic gastroenteritis ( basically bloody stool) but did more testing and found out it was pancreatitis... did you baby get lab work done? if so what was his/her amalyse and lipase lab values???( these enzymes will tell you how your babies pancresis is doing) Also, what are you feeding him/her? High fat diets can cause pancreatitis. |

| also, if the bloody stool continues i would HIGHLY suggest bring them back to vet.... when there is blood in the stool that means that the mucousal membranes in the intestines start to break down and they can get septicemic and possibly not recover.... |
