| Horrible new carpet smell Hi all, I am hoping someone can help me. I just moved into a new apt. The tipping point for me to move was that it will be much better for me new Yorkie puppy who will be 6 months old by the time I finally get her. I had to postpone getting her twice, once because of the move and then again because of the horrible, chemically new carpet smell. Cheap indoor/outdoor carpeting was put throughout the house and the smell is AWFUL. I had a carpet cleaning guy come in and spray it with, what was supposed to be, non toxic stuff to get rid of the smell. Well it made it worse. I have tried opening all the windows all day long, but it still stinks. The breeder won't send me my dog until the smell is gone because she said the dog might get really sick. I don't know what to do, I am so upset!! I haven't tried steam cleaning the carpets yet. I am afraid that it might make the smell worse if they get wet. I am freaking out. I am sitting here, freezing with all my windows open right now. My question is, has anyone else had this problem with the smell and if so, did your Yorkie get sick? Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get rid of the smell? Please help, I want my Beanie and I can't get her. I am heartbroken. I attached a picture of her. |

| I would guess the smell is glue that was used to install it. There is nothing you can do about that. Have you spoken to the landlord? Your yorkie is precious, but I wouldn't take a puppy or an adult yorkie into a situation with that kind of odor.

| Have you tried sprinkling baking soda on the carpet and let it sit for awhile and then vacuum it? Also you could put plates of kitty litter around to absorb the odor and I think charcoal absorbs odors too. You are right not to bring your puppy home til you can get rid of the odor. Congratulations on your new puppy and good luck getting rid of the carpet odor. |

| You need to submit this to your landlord in writing and keep good records. It is your landlord's responsibility to attend to this A.S.A.P.

The odor could make you sick too. Wait to get the puppy. It's worse for a dog bc she'll be right down on the floor most of the time. Something is wrong... the smell should be gone in 3-4 days.

The only time we had a 'problem smell' with a new carpet was from a pure wool one. It was gorgeous, but it really smelt of sheep - and it never, ever went away, whatever we did to it! We ended up changing it (thank goodness!). Good luck with it, and your beautiful soon-to-be Littlie Sally + Harry x | |
