Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taycie's Test Results are in! Finally got a call back from the vet today about 4 with Taycie's test results. The test we had done was a TLI/PLI/fol Cob-inc. My new vet especially wanted to make sure her Pancreas was function properly. She was also concerned about her Folate and Cobalamin levels which could be also causing her GI discomfort and flare-ups. As far as her Pancreas was concerned she said it is functioning beautifully! I was soooooo very happy to hear this. As for her Folate levels were concerned they were high. Basically the way she explained this to me was she has has an overload of Bacteria in her system. Which would be why about every 6 weeks we end up with diaherra. She said her system may be getting bombarded by all the bacteria and then this of course leads to horrible GI upset. So, plan of action, is... we are putting her on a very low dose of Tylan powder for 2 months and going back and retesting to see where her levels are. She said it could be possible that once this is under control we will be able to wean her off the Tylan powder completely, however she said she has seen many dogs that use this for the rest of there life to keep the bacteria at healthy levels. So.. I am sure I missed something hopefully I explained this correctly. This is the way I understood it. Hopefully this will give my girl some relief. I feel like we are moving in a very positive direction. Side note... Her dosage of Tylan powder is very little. She will be taking 1/16th of a tsp then split into to 3rds.. Any ideas on how to split such a small amount into thirds???? This is going to be the hard part Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We sure love all of you

| Wonderful news about her pancreas functioning correctly!! And at least you know what is causing the problem. Hopefully she will be able to do the Tylan and get off of it when they retest in 2 months!! So glad that Taycie is going to be ok! Hugs to both of you!!

| It sounds like she has small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Ellie has that too. Sounds like your vet is doing things exactly right. Did you get the powder? Not capsules? You can get Tylan compounded in capsules which is nice. It can get pricey though. For measuring the powder, some vets just say a "pinch". 1/3 of 1/16 - hmm. If you want to be very accurate, I think I'd be doing 1/8, then splitting that in half, then splitting that in thirds just by hand and eyeballing it. It is very bitter (and be careful you don't breathe the dust in when dealing with it). That combined with Ellie's esophagus not being able to tolerate much necessitated me putting it into capsules myself (either that or get it compounded which was going to cost like $1K/year/with shipping).

| Glad to hear the test results came back normal. I have no suggestions about splitting the dosage of medication - maybe the vet or vet techs have some ideas. Hope this works for your little one!

| I know nothing about splitting the meds either. But do you think maybe a pharmacy could help? I know my son had to take meds that had to be split and they did help me out. Of course for a small fee. But I am not sure they would do it if it was for a pet. I am just thinking they may have more accurate measurements. I don't know just a suggestion to check out.

| Oh Emily, I know you must be so relieved to have some answers. It sounds like the vet is a good match for you and Taycie. I hope the new medicine gets her back on track soon.

| So glad to hear that you have a diagnosis for Taycie and am hoping that this med will help resolve the issue. I would speak to the vet about dividing the powder and see what they suggest.
