| Bladder Stones My little Yorkie is almost five she had bladder stones three years ago, she had to have surgery to remove them, she has been on a special diet since then. Now she has been diagnosed with more stones twice in three years, is this normal for a female Yorkie? She is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I second that. what type of stones does she have? perhaps she is on the wrong food? Is she getting enough daily liquids? Is she getting other foods (table scraps, treats, chews) other then her prescription food? Does she have free access to water and a potty area throughout the day, or does she have to hold it while your at work or whatnot?

| They have sent them out to be tested, as for food the vet put her on Hills C/D after the last surgery she gets no other food (scraps) except for her treats after she she goes potty. She has access to water all day I am home all day so she can go out any time she wants. |

| My yorkie is 4 and had struvite bladder stones removed when she was 2.5. Her food was changed to Science Diet but after being on it for 6 weeks urinalysis revealed oxalate crystals in the urine . The diet was switched to the Royal Canin SO and she has not had a recurrence of stones/crytals in the urine however she has had 5-6 recurrent UTI's since the stone surgery. I would definitely consult a veterinary internist. I used the University of Florida Veterinary Clinic for her 2nd UTI. They have not given me a definitive answer in terms of what is causing "Charlie" to have this problem. I take "caught" urine samples to the vet roughly every 6-8 weeks to determine if it is showing any bacterial growth or if she is displaying symptoms of a UTI. The diagnosis we got was "Complicated Urinary Tract Infection". Possible causes include inflammation/scar tissue/infection from original surgery site or Interstitial cystitis (which is more common in cats). We only feed Charlie the RC SO food, only allow her to drink distilled water, give her carrots as treats and wipe her female area clean with pampers sensitive wipes and pat dry with kleenex. |
