| Knot Okay, I'm really worried. My 1 year old Yorkie has a knot on his underside right around what appears to be some kind of tendon going to back legs. I have never noticed ( I know I'm horrible for this but I know nothing about boy dogs and he's so tiny) but it looks like he only has one testical and it is on the other side. He has had all of his check ups that puppies require and all of his vaccines. He is not due in again until Feb. I got him into the vet as soon as I get paid, which is next Saturday, but in the mean time I am terrified. Has anyone ever seen anything such as this? I appreciate any ideas. Please no hurtful comments, I'm already feeling horrible. Tiffany

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Just trying to understand exactly where this knot is located? First what side of his body is it on? Is it located in the loin area? Perhaps a pic of where it is located would help. Some "knots" can be swollen lymph nodes but hard to tell that when location is unclear. Perhaps to ease your mind, you can call vet and explain what you have found and where. If the vet says bring in; then see if they are okay with you paying with a postdated cheque for Saturday. Also a good idea is to get a Care Credit card; many vets accept this card in the USA. Hopefully this is nothing, but a little wake up call for you to start putting aside some funds for medical care. Let us know what the vet says. Till then try not to worry too much

| It is possible to only have one descended testicle. If I am not mistaken, an undescended testicle must be taken care of. Is the knot in that area? Or is it a bump you saw to the side of the base of the penis? There are glands in that area that will pop out like a little marble on each side. It's hard to say without knowing where exactly the knot is.

| Just wondering if it could be a hernia. Could you see if the vet would let you post date a check in case it is something that requires immediate attention? Or maybe care credit? I am sorry good luck and best wishes to your baby

| Here is a picture of where the glands are: Dog has swelling near his penis. | Ask A Vet Hernia sounds plausible too. It's impossible to guess online what it is or how quickly you need to get into the vet. Keep us updated.

| Yes, it appears to be where the glands are located. However it stays swollen and again only on one side. He goes to the Vet on Saturday. So I will have an answer. It has really been driving me crazy. Last night I called the vet because he seems to be running a low grade fever, but it still VERY active and does not seem to be in any pain. The vet says to just keep an eye on him and bring him in for his appointment.

| my dad took in an old, neglected, unneutered male yorkie years ago. he only had 1 testicle that decended. the dr said she always recommends having them neutered when they have this condition, as the other testicle is there but hasn't dropped down and could cause a great deal of pain, or even twist around vital parts if it wasn't removed, which could be life threatening. he had the operation, which was more extensive than your typical neuter, and did just fine even though he was estimated to be around 12 years old at the time. he lived another almost 4 years, and were probably the best years of his life as the previous owners kept him leashed to a kitchen chair because he lifted his leg in their house. getting him neutered would have probably resolved that problem, but they obviously didn't care enough to do that for him and turned him over to my dad. wishing you best of luck at your appointment on saturday and that you get some answers for your baby!!! please keep us updated.

| So just to let everyone know, Aiko went to the vet on Saturday. The knot is his other testicle and I will have to have him neutered. So much better than what I feared though. I will be having the surgery as soon as I can get a few vacation days to stay home and keep an eye on him. I'm worried about the sedation, but I think all in all things will be okay. Thanks for the advice all! Tiffany

| That is great news, Tiffany. Have pre-op bloodwork done (a chemistry panel and CBC?). Best wishes to Aiko for a speedy recovery.
