| very sick we took Superwoman to the vet today. she is in kidney failure. my husband and I are devastated. she's not even 3 years old. she threw up a treat on monday, then tuesday she was throwing up white foam, but she still ate and pottied. yesterday she didn't want to eat, still drank water but was still vomiting. I called my usual vet, they couldnt get her in til friday. then she was vomiting bile. so I called a different vet this morning and we took her this afternoon. my head is still swimming, I dont even remember what all he said. he did blood work and her "___ levels" were way high. he said she is in kidney failure. we have no idea what caused this. my husband thinks she may have eaten some grass with pesticide on it. the vet asked if she ate some grapes or raisins. I'm miserable. we have to take her back tomorrow for more fluids and another blood test on saturday, but if her "___ levels" havent significantly improved..... please keep her in your prayers. I am so not ready to loose her. |

| I am surprised they did not admit her and keep her on fluids all night.... my dog (he was older though) went into kidney failure he spent three days at the vets getting fluids, among other meds, and they got his number back into the normal range... Sending lots of prayers she has a full recovery....

and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | So sorry to hear this. I just lost my 3 yr old Yorkie/Maltese Rusty on 9/19/11. He was vomiting and had a bloody stool for less than 24 hours. My vet said he was in kidney failure after having a seizure at 6 am and he passed away around 9:30 that morning. We have know idea how or why this happened. We know he didn't get into poison. She tested him for Leptospirosis but it came back negative. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you have a full recovery. From what my vet said sometimes kidney failure can be treated. Best of luck.

The vet should do some additional testing to rule out other causes if the BUN and creatinine numbers are up. For instance they should check to see if it could be lyme disease or lepto. If it is kidney disease you can/may be able to do some things to prolong your little ones life. These sources where very helpful when I needed some extra help in understanding as to how to care for my little one.... | Kidney disease So very sorry to hear about the sudden and sad news that your little one may have kidney failure. I know how you feel as my little Nik had the same thing and the onset was devastating and we found it hard to accept. Out of the blue it happened and certainly we did not let her get into any poison. The vet said the kidneys can show no ill effects until they are 75% out of action, and that is why the onset is so dramatic. Your little one is so young too. Lets hope that further investigation will show that it is not so bad as originally diagnosed and that she can be treated. I agree with the poster who thought your dog should be kept overnight and hydrated to stabilize her, but hopefully that is happening now. You can hydrate at home also. Prayers for your little one and you and your family. Please keep in touch. |
