| blood in urine in 14 week old puppy please help. hi, we bought a yorkie at 10 weeks from a private breeder and all was fine till we got home... we noticed Bella would constantly squat and then dribble bits of urine throught the day.. we have never had a dog so we thought it was just part of potty training or being a puppy but after 1 week when we took her to the vet for her first shots we notice there was blood in the pee.. the vet gave her a pennacillin shot and some more to give orally till gone.. well 8 days later and still no change so we took her back to the vet and he did a urine and blood test and said her sugar levels were high and then took blood to test for diabetes.. he then said to put her back on the pennacillian till empty...she is 14 weeks and 2 1/2 pounds... she plays and eats science diet puupy food and looks great but we dont let her run around too much because she will wee wee everywere.. so we feel so helpless..any ideas?? I have spent 300.00 in 2 weeks in vet bills so this is hard on me but i dont want her to suffer... why wouldnt the vet know what is wrong with her?? help anyone.. Jo |

| The blood was normal except for the glucose and the urinalysis was normal? Sorry about the bills, but dogs can get really expensive. Don't be surprised to spend anywhere from a few thousand to $15 or $20 thousand on things that come up throughout her life.

| bella blood in urine The vet took a urine sample and said there was blood and the sugar levels were high and he did not know why and he just gave me the pennicillan and said to give her science diet puppy food only... and after 2 weeks she still pees blood 60% of the time... we cant have her out for longer than 10- 15 min. and she wee wees everywere.... sometimes just dribbles... so we have a large playyard and put her bed, pee pads and water and food in there and play with her as much as possible but it is hard with her peeing every 15 min with no signs...what could it be? stones or maybe even a tumor on her kidneys?? if so what will happen or treatments will be needed? should I go to a different vet? why doesnt my vet know what is wrong with her?? ...we will do what it takes to help her get better because we love our Baby Bella...we are newbies when it comes to dogs so any advice would help.. thanx...... |

| So diabetes is ruled out? This is not normal and is medically urgent. Yes, time for a second opinion no later than tomorrow morning. Hopefully the antibiotic just isn't working, but it sounds like something else. Stones would need to be ruled out, but she seems very young for that. Bloodwork is an okay indicator of kidney function. I'd wonder about the kidney and liver values. Has the urine been sent for culure and sensitivity testing?

| I would go to another vet. The one you are seeing I would think should be able to tell you more.

| This is just my opionion for what its worth... but, if she were mine I would be going to another vet. Some vets are just better than others, just like some doctors are better. I would keep trying until someone knew what to do. Hope you find a vet that knows how to help her. |

| Just checking to see how your little one is doing. I hope you could get her in to see another vet. Did the first vet rule out diabetes?

| I agree with the others. Time for a second opinion.

| blood in urine Thank all for your replies, The vet said no diabetes...he just said high levels of sugar and did not know why .. she is 14 weeks and this is day 14 on the pennicialln and stil she has some blood in her urine.. not as bad but it is still there ... she is pooping like 10 or so times a day also.. she still wanders off and wee wees anywere she wants... her squatting seems lessened though... she only eats the recomended amount of science diet.... i think it is all that medicine upsetting her tummy.. so i was hope the meds were helping but i still see blood...im going to give my vet one more try since i already have so much invested with him now.. im gonna take her to see hime on saturday that is when her meds will finish, and i really hope he can give me some help and answers... Does anyone think she should have an xray or ultrasound or sonogram? maybe i should ask him to do a urine sensitivity test>>?? i will post on sat. and let you know the outcome... |

| 14 days out and there should be zero blood for a long time now. Shouldn't have to ask for certain tests at this point. The vet should be telling you that your pup needs them. It is definitely time for a second opinion. And pooping 10x daily is a huge concern in itself.

| I hope someone else can help you figure out what is wrong with Bella. Blood in the urine is not normal. I will say that, at 14 weeks, your baby is not going to be housetrained even if she were perfectly healthy - she would still probably be peeing everywhere - but definitely not every 15 minutes. Poor Bella; she is very young and tiny and I hope that your next Vet is a little more helpful.

| Talked to the vet he said take her off the meds wait a week then come in and they will do a urine test and send it off for culture.. I asked so Im supposed to let her have blood in her urine for another week??? and he said that the antibiotic has to be completely out of her system in order to test for any other bugs that may be going on... so i dont know what to do... if i take her to another vet her urine test may not be ready free of the penicillin to culture...aah sooo fustrated..Im just going to find another vet today... |

| I'm no dr by any means, but I think it's the food because some puppy foods have things like glucose to provoke the puppy to eat it. Since it's an issue with alot of pooping and peeing....my guess is food! |

| I think Julius is sick :-( Hey everyone, So yesterday afternoon, Julius went poop on his training pad. When I went to clean up the pad, I noticed there was a little bit of blood in his stool. I immedaitely called the vet who asked me a few basic questions. He is still eatting and being ative. He has already had his parvo shot. The vet instructed me to keep an eye on it and to contact them back if it still happens. Every other bowel moment was normal. I have an appointment for him tomorrow (sat) to have his follow up and also have him looked at. I am really worried and I hope everything checks out ok. I will keep you updated.
