Yorkie Yakker | Roxy may have kidney disease :( Sorry to start a new post. I posted before about my poor put having mild seizures but the vet called today with more concerning news. Roxys one liver test is elevated and both her kidney tests were elevated as well. Our vet referred me to an internal medicine vet and she goes for her ultrasound Thursday. These are her levels: Liver alkaline is 158 ( normal 5-131) BUN is 48 (normal 6-31) C- is 1.8 (normal .5-1.6) So he levels are high but don't seem too bad yet. I have no experience with this stuff. Could it be maybe I've caught it in enough time to give her a shot at a decent lifespan? Or will these levels just continue to go up no matter what as time goes by? Just really confused. |

Yorkie Yakker | Yeah u wouldn't even have known she's sick. She is hyper as all heck. Eating well gaining weight doing everything a healthy puppy would. It's just lucky I noticed she excessive drinking and mild head tremors when I did. I knew something just wasn't right. I let my next door neighbor know to keep an eye out on her littermates. I feel bad for those pups. I hope none of them have a kidney issue too . |

| It could just be that she has liver disease (not uncommon in Yorkies) and it has thrown the kidneys out. Could be so many things. Those numbers aren't terrible. Was she fasted before the blood draw? Dehydration can make the BUN go up as can high protein diets. What is she eating? Yup, you need to go straight to a specialist so she can be assessed.

Yorkie Yakker | I was feeding her lamb and rice forumula food but She's on natures wild food with bison as the main ingredient. Not sure if that foods any better for her or not. No she did not fast before the tests they were kinda last minute idea cause she was going in to check out her head tremors. All I know is I'm hoping it something that can be managed and give her a good quality of life for a least a few years. Poor pup isn't even four months old yet. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I second Ellie May. The creatinine level isn't excessive, but even mild dehydration can cause the number to increase. The BUN level, while being a measurement of kidney function, can also reflect liver problems since urea is a by product of protein metabolism in the liver. I haven't seen any references to alk phos levels being elevated in kidney disease, its normally associated with the liver. I'm glad you were referred to a specialist who can do more extensive testing. Please let us know how it goes.

| We are suppose to take our little Dudley back to the vet Sept. 6th. He has been on antibotics and k/d with a pill an hr. before he eats. He went in Friday for his 3rd vaccine shot and the vet told me she seen no reason right now to have a bile acid test because she seems to think he is going to be fine and the next reading will be normal. Please pray for my baby and I will pray for yours that they both will come through this with nothing wrong. God bless. |

Yorkie Yakker | Well roxy got her ultrasound. It's good and it's bad. Her liver he said is pristine but her kidneys are small. I guess it's something she was born with. So I guess he kidneys can't function properly. So she has to go on a low protien diet from here on and get hey tri monthly blood work. As far as her seizures go she has to get an MRI of her brain. He said that too could maybe be on the smaller side too. So right now it's just a waiting game to see how long her kidneys will hang on. As he said it could be a year or it could be ten years. It's just something no one can predict. Ad I said you wouldn't even had known she was sick cause she's very hyper and happy and eats well. Only thing is she's not crazy about the new food but she's gunna have to get used to it. I thought about looking into making her home made food. So long story short this pup isn't gunna have an easy life by no means but hopefully she will have a happy long life |

Yorkie Yakker | Anyone have a suggestion of what I can mix with her low protien wet food just to make it more appealing to her taste buds? She's not liking it and I don't blame her. Looks like thick corn paste. Any suggestions? |
