| bloody stool please help My little ten year old guy has a history of pancreatits and bladder stones. I try to keep a very close watch on him. He is on WD diet with NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else to eat. Yesterday at 1:00 he threw up what appeared to be undigested can food. I cut back on his dinner food. At 6:00 his poop had some blood in it. I called the Vet (Saturday night so no one in office) She told me if he had any more problems to take him to ER. At 2:30 AM he woke me up. Bloody diarrehea. I got him to the ER as soon as possible..had to get a friend to drive us. ER Vet said I was very observant because most people would not have even noticed the blood it was such a small amount. She said the cPL (pancreasis) when read by machine was abnormal. But when visually looking at the test both the control dot and the sample dot were equal in color. She did not seem to be convinced that this problem was the pancreas. She said he has Giardia (He never drinks pond water so I don't know how/why he would have Giardia) They put him on Metronidazole and Panacur. He has been very quiet all day...very unusual for him. He is so happy and so hyper...never still. He is really scaring me. I called my Vet because I have to be at a meeting all day tomorrow (no possible way to reschedule) I asked if I could drop my little boy off for observation and he said "yes". He also told me he did not thik it was giardia. He did not say what it was just that it probably was NOT Giardia. Now, I am REALLY scared. Do you think it could be something WORSE than giardia. I am so afraid of losing him. He is so precious to me. I recently lost my husband and this little guy is such a special link with my husband I panic anytime he shows any sign of sickness. Any suggestions? Any Ideas?? How scared should I be? If there was ANY way I could skip tomorrow's meeting I would....but if I do my job will be in jeopardy. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for listening! |

| My heart really goes out to you. Over the years I had a number of situations of bloody stools with my Bad Leroy Brown. Taking your baby to the vet is the best course of action, especially if you won't be around to watch for signs of dehydration, shock, etc. These little guys are so small and reactive to ever so small changes. AND if you don't like what one vet says, find another one, And another one, And another one, until you find one that really cares. Thankfully, I found a great vet and she got us on a good routine and we haven't had a bloody stool for 2 1/2 years!!!!! Good luck!

| I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. It is not fun when our little ones are sick. I have had a few experiences with bloody stool with Rosie. We always ended up at the vet also. She has been officially diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS. Usually requires some antibiotics if she has a flare up. Don't know if that is at all what could be up with your baby or not. But it might be possible. I think it is great that you are able to drop your baby off to the vet tomorrow for observation. Do you have a way to contact your vet tonight? Maybe tell him that you are very worried and since he didn't think it was the Giardia would it be possible for him to tell you what he is thinking? Or even talk to him first thing in the morning when you drop the pup off? I am so sorry you have to attend the meeting but I certainly understand. Maybe some one with more experience can give you some more ideas. I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.

| So sorry for the loss of your husband. I know how concerned you must be for this little guy. Letting the vet observe him tomorrow and leaving him there where he could be cared for in case of any emergancy is the best thing I think you could do. Praying he will be fine and they will find out what is causing this. |

| update Update on my little guy. He stayed with the vet all day yesterday. They said his behavior seemed fine. No more throwing up, no more diarrhea. The vet said he did a test and there were no signs of giardia. So either the vet is wrong or the ER was wrong. Does anyone have any experience with this condition? I have been home with him most of the day today. He is usually VERY playful. Has played very little today. Maybe for 5 or 10 minutes for the entire day. He is eatting and drinking. Just not very active. Sleeping alot. The vet reminded me yesterday that he is almost 11 and not a "spring chicken" any more. I guess I should expect to see him start to slow down a little bit because of age??? He will go on very short walks and then wants to go back home. Like I said, no vomiting and no diarrhea...but, on the other hand he has not pooped very much. I am not feeding him as much as I usualy do so I guess that is normal??? I am so scared that I am going to lose him. He is so precious to me. Not having any family or my husband any more makes him a very important part of my world. If anyone knows anything abot giardia please let me know. I don't think it is the pancreas because he is not throwing up or having diarrhea. They are treating him with anitbiotic.., so would that take care of the giardia and pancreas? The Vet seems to think he will be okay, just need to continue the meds. The only thing that is really scaring me is the lack of activity. Forgive me, I know I have rambled. Just wish I had someone to talk to about this. Thanks for listening |

| Thanks for the update.... We've been wondering how he's doing. When Leroy had his tummy problems, the vet always had me follow up with FortiFlora (Purina, dry powder in small packets) includes acidopholus cultures. He may not go potty for a bit since he lost most of the contents of his little tummy. It's good that he's eating and drinking. He'll likely be tired and pokey for a few days, he's been thru quite an ordeal. Keep us posted. Good luck!!! PS Ramble all you want to . . . that's what your Fur-family is here for!

| update Thanks for the support. He continues to improve but still loses energy quickly. I keep reminding myself that he is soon to be eleven years old and this may be his new normal. I try not to get upset because it upsets him when I cry. He is such a sweet little boy. Truly my "puppy angel". Thanks for caring! |

| I'm sorry I'm just seeing this! Good for you for being on top of things. Poor guy. I'm sending him get well vibes from Jackson and I. Jackson's had a few tummy issues a few weeks ago which turned out to be pancreatitis and I did not see any blood in his stool until took him to the vet and it came out on the thermometer! I was so scared. It's such a scary thing when they are sick and you are not exactly sure what's wrong. If you think the lack of activity is strange, I wouldn't just leave it alone. Regardless of age, if he was pretty active even a few months ago, I think it might concern me and not be something necessarily about age (of course it COULD be). But either way, sending my thoughts your way and keep checking in with us!

| another update My little boy is doing much better. Activity has increased. He is getting back to normal. Not there 100% yet, but moving in that direction. A friend visited yesterday and brought him a toy hotdog. He refuses to let go of it. You should see him trying to go potty and hold the hot dog at the same time. He really cracks me up! He is such a special little guy! Thanks for all of the good thoughts and prayers. They are much appreciated! |
