| Something is wrong with Sophie.. Hey everyone, I haven't been around for about a year, and even then, I wasn't that active...but something is wrong with Sophie and I just want to talk to someone about it. This morning she woke me up as usual by barking in my ears and licking my face and everything seemed normal. The mid-afternoon I went into the kitchen and there was a pile of diarrhea by the back door and it was definitely hers...she hasn't had diarrhea since she was a puppy (she is 2 years now) and it is now 8:53 pm and she hasn't eaten or drank since then.. She has only slept and normally hates me leaving the room, but she doesn't even wake up when I leave. I was upstairs and my mom texted me and told me that she was refusing water from a dropper and her stomach was gurgling really loud. Her gums are slightly lighter than normal but they are not dry and sticky...but the skin between her shoulders doesn't spring back when I pinch it. I can't get to the vet until tomorrow (long story short, I won't have my car/credit card until after midnight and my husband and I are really tight on money so even if I borrowed someone's car, I don't have the funds to pay for an emergency vet...please don't judge, I already feel like a failure...but me working is not an option because I quit my job back in September to take care of my mom who has cancer, full-time). I am worried...she had many bouts of hypoglycemia when she was a puppy - including after she was spayed, which resulted in a longer recovery time for her...I have rubbed some honey on the roof of her mouth because usually it worked, but she is still just laying beside me sleeping. I hate myself for not being able to get her to the vet right now and I feel like I am failing her majorly right now. Please don't tell me I should rehome her if I can't afford to take care of her...we can afford things without the emergency fee tacked onto it, but obviously if she gets worse I will suck it up and pay whatever I have to once my husband is home from work at midnight...I just want her going to her usual vet when they open at 7:30am. I guess I am just looking for advice on what to give her until then. To sum everything up: -she is 4.5lbs, 2 years old -eats Canidae pure lands grain free formula -has only peed once today -no vomitting -refusing water, food, treats, rice, honey (but forced some in her mouth) -sleeping all day -gums are lighter than normal, but not dry or sticky...however, skin is not bouncing back at all -will be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but if she gets worse she will be going to the emergency vet |

| I hope someone can help you. I know you are scared. You are in my prayers and I know you are a blessing to your mom.

| So sorry your baby isn't feeling well. Can you call your vet for advice until tomorrow? Do you have any nutria-cal? That's better than honey for her. Can you try giving her some boiled chicken and rice? That might intice her to eat. I hope your baby feels better soon. |

| Thanks guys. I called the emergency vet and they suggested giving her a little white rice mixed with her kibble and a mashed up carrot. She has allergies and can't eat chicken or beef and I don't have access to other meat right now. I have no idea about the carrot...but she loves them so we are hoping it will entice her to eat it. She also suggested making the rice with a homemade pedialyte recipe (so half a cup of rice made with 1/4c water and 1/4c mixture). Also, to mash her kibble up with the same mixture so that if she does decide to eat it, she will be getting something more to help keep her hydrated and her sugar levels up. I made it and put it in a dish and she just spent 10 mins trying to burying it with her head and the blankets, but didn't eat it. My mom said it was like she was saying to me, "mommy, this smells good and I would usually love to eat this...but my tummy hurts so I am going to save it until later". I am going to try and get her to drink again soon and then head up to bed with her (not like I will sleep, but maybe getting her away from my parents' dogs and on our own will perk her up a little bit). I hate when she isn't feeling well... |

| I don't have Nutrical here and I have tried with an eye dropper and a syringe and she just spits it out. I tried giving her an ice cube to lick, but she didn't want it. She is still protecting her food and chasing the other dogs and cats away from it but she isn't willing to eat it...just protect it. I put a really moistened piece of her food on her tongue and she spit it out as well. I think she has gotten a little water from something, because her skin is bouncing back a little better. I will be on the phone as soon as the vet opens in the morning. |

| Update: Sophie is back to normal. The vet thinks she ate some of my mom's dogs' food and reacted to the chicken that is in it (she is allergic). She is on a diet of rice and moistened kibble right now, we were told to look into slowly switching her to a raw/home diet to monitor her allergies better. She is resting now, but she has drank and eaten her food happily today and is back to her, as my mom said, "mouthy little self". |

| That is great to hear. I am glad she is feeling better. Yorkie's can have such sensitive systems. I have my dogs on a raw diet, I would recommend Primal raw food. |

| So glad you baby is doing better!! I feed Riley Primal Raw, as well. I usually do the raw in the morning and then ACANA kibble, at night... but there are times when I do the raw morning and night. |

| Aww poor thing ! Fido was like this a short while ago, I got Pro-Kolin for him at the vets and some 2 types of meds, and Hills ID canned dog food, he got better straight away ! the next day the diarrhea had stopped and he was getting all his energy back. I reccomand giving her rice and chicken ! its good for the stumach and it will help her to get better. I think no dog will refuse chicken ! just be patient she will eat when she's hungry, boil the rice and chicken its best, you boil it for about an hour, you see it just when its ready.
