| Dropped Hercules on his back!!!!!! First post, Terribly sorry to ask so much from the forum before i contribute but heres the deal We have a 3 month old, Hes my fiances and I first dog together and we are absolutely in love with him Today he started doing this crazy wiggle while my fiance was hold him and she dropped him on his back from about 4 ft in the air, he yelped for a few seconds and i picked him up and cuddled him, he was shook up but able to walk and run and i just thought maybe we lucked out this time. Now its about 5 hours later and hes not wanting to walk much though he is walking around. He Is sleeping but it is sleep time. When i pick him up and move him around occasionally he yelps. It seems its associated with his neck area. I Felt all of his back vertebrae and he doesnt yelp and i felt his whole head and he doesnt yelp, theres no limping or anyhting. But when i tough around the neck where his shoulder attaches he yelps. Do i need to take him to the vet er right now or can i wait 7 more hours and take him to his vet in the am? I dont see any swelling and im not sure what to do. His eyes are glossy or dialated looking either. |

| You need to take that baby to the an ER ASAP & get an x-ray. If all looks good you can find a Chiropractor to adjust him. I use Chiros for mine & it's perfectly safe. |

| I took him and they looked him over, they have diagnosed him with drama king syndrom they say he is very shook up from the fall and certainly in pain. The vet said that he yelps anywhere he is touched and that its inconsistent. She said at first it was near his jaw, then near his hips then not on his jaw then no where then everywhere. She said its not uncommon for them to be this shookup when they are this young. She gave me 6ccs of a pain killer for him, we gave him the first dose and there has been zero yelping. He walked and even ran just fine after he got that dose so i think hes ok, She said she didnt think an xray was needed at this point and wanted us to just watch him till Monday. She said if he hasnt come out of yelp mode then he needs to have an xray. He has eaten since the fall too so it looks like no hunger strike from the little guy. I feel much better now as for a bit i was concerned he might have a concussion. On the way to the vet he yelped like crazy but after we went, he hasnt yelped once. |

| I would not have left the office without an x-ray and am surprised that any vet would not think that a dog that had fallen that distance did not need one. I am not surprised that the vet did not feel anything wrong and is more of a reason she should have done an x-ray. He was probably yelping because something is being pinched in his neck or spine. If he continues to show signs of pain I would find a Chiro and take him there as a Chiro can and will find any spine or neck issue just by feeling which most vets cannot do. |

| I'd avoid the chiropractor at all costs. They are not safe in my opinion. I'd stick with what my vet told me to do and watch him carefully. A vet is the only person who can tell you you need an xray. I would ask about it, but if the vet already said one isn't needed, there is no reason for you to waste your money on a dog chiropractor. I would never let a chiropractor touch any of my dogs, ever, not even if they wanted to do it for free.

Totally agree! I do want to say that I love the diagnosis! I had a recent very similar incident with one of my pups ... it happened at the vet and my vet did just what the EC vet did with the OPs dog. Examined thoroughly and instructed me to watch him closely for any neuro signs to pop up which never happened. No xray was done, nor was it needed. Honestly, most times if anything is wrong regarding a back, it is not going to show up in an xray anyway. As for a chiropractor, I would not go to one myself so I sure as heck would not take one of my pups.

| I never heard of a chiropractor for dogs, I use to go to one and he really helped after I hurt my back, but I wouldn't take my dog. Glad you went to the vet and they said Mr Drama King is ok, since he is running aroud. Just watch him and make sure. Welcome, you came to the right place. Wonderful ,fun, people and great information and games.

| They gave me liquid pain killer and hes suposed to get 1 cc per day if he needs it. I just checked him out and hes laying on the couch with my fiance, they both look to be sleeping quite fine. Herc got up and had his les stuck far out like he was stretching so i pet him and then he laid his head back down and slep again. Ill watch him today and see if hes got any signs of pain or swelling. The vet said you can pay for an xray if you want but im certain its not going to turn up anything. She said it would be a waste of money because theres nothing broken. She said the good thing about puppies is they are very durable to falls and incidental injuries, they heal fast and can take a lot of punishment though sometimes they are pretty vocal about it. I think im going to shop for a helmet for him today because we have had him 1 week and this is my 2nd omg wtf do i do moment. The other, he fell down 3 stairs when he decided he was ready for stairs but after the first stair realized he wasnt ready. Luckily no stairs at my house and ive put pillows all around the couch in case he tries to jump off. |

| My Armani is the same way- he will act like he is dying over the slightest little thing. These types of pups can honestly be a bit of a pain to deal with because it is hard to determine what is serious and what isn't. With my Chloe I pretty much know if she screams it means ER vet immediately because she is very stoic. Poor Little Drama King- hope he is feeling better soon- I find lots of treats and kisses help my little man
