| Ringworm and i. The worst mommy Last week after bathing coco i noticed a dry scabby but peely type spot. Because the scabs were flaking off i thought perhaps it was from her pin brush and it probably cut her skin. I felt bad and from then on i bushed her cautiously. Because today is cocos spay i went to the groomer and she showed me like three swolleen red spots! She wasnt sure exaxtly what it was but she said its from her biting herself. I necer saw her bite heself until last night when we got home from the groomers. Today when we went to the vet i showed her these spots and the vet took her to examine her skin. The nurse asked me to go with her to the other room and there the vet told me that he thinks it could be ring worm!! The light he held showed green glow from her hair and he said that is a sign of rinworms butjust to make sure he will take her hair and test it. Within 10mi s he said its ringworm but we have to waut few more days to be positive!! I told the vet that i have no clue how she got i because she onl eats dry food! He said bdcause ringworm is highly contagious she could have caught this from another dog! The nurse told me that this is quite common problem in korea and there was nothin i could have done to prevent it! I am extremeky upset witb mysekf because i didnt know and thout it was just a scab from her oin brush. The vet said that if it is positive he will prescribe her medicin and it wll take anywhere btwn 3-12 weeks depending on her. Im worried because we are moving back to Canada on August 17th and im afraid they wont allow her in. Are ringworms really that common? What can i do in the future to prevent it and anyone had this experience with their dogs?? I know that i need to keep her in quarentine from other dogs and people... Ugggh i feel like the worst doggy mom ever!

| Did your vet explain that ringworm is a fungus of the skin and not a parasite like the name implies? It can also be passed from your dog to you. Please do not feel like a bad mommy though, because it is very contagious and it can be picked up from other dogs and the surface of many places. Also, it is very common for groomers to pass ringworm from dog to dog if they are not disinfecting their equipment between dogs.

| you know what? he probably did... because i was in shocked from the fact that coco has ringworm i stopped listening :P Coco lost a lot of weight too! she went in for a consult for her spay 2.5 weeks ago and she was healthy 2.2kg and today she went down to 1.9kg!!! eeek! I actually don't know much about ringworms except that my my family friend's son had it when we were in grade 4 and all i know is that it makes you hungry all the time and you have a 3d rings that pop on your skin... The vet did mention that I could get it so I'm going to see if anything funny happens to me and get myself checked out as well :P I was wondering... if a dog has ringworm is the dog most likely catch it again??? I should really do some more research onthis...

I have never heard that ringworm makes you hungry. As far as them being more susceptible to ringworm once they have had it..I don't know. I think they are more susceptible to it if their immune system is compromised, or they are stressed. Moving can certainly do it. One thing though, ringworm is more common in areas where the weather is warm and humid. The hard winter freeze and cooler weather in Canada should help manage it much better.

I really do think the hot and humidity have done it... it was extremely humid during the monsoon season which lasted a week... Thank you for your informative posts

| You are welcome. I don't like the stigma that often comes with a ringworm diagnosis. People associate it with being dirty, or they feel they are a bad care taker and that just is not "always" the case. Sometimes, it is just unpreventable. It is a pain for sure, but it is just something we treat and deal with. Once you get settled in your new place, I bet you don't have any more problems with it. Good luck.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear about Coco's ringworm. Don't feel bad it happens and not much you can do except what you are doing. I bought my daughter a long haired guinea pig years ago and it had ringworm the pet store offered to take him back but i opted to treat him. I had to take him in for sulfur (t think) baths that turned his beautiful white fur yellow. It cleared up after about 6 weeks but not before I got it too. The doctor gave me a cream and it cleared it up. I hope Coco's improves quickly.

| Thank you! I read about sulfur dips last night. I just dont know where to get them here in asia! Nor even back home. But if it is something that can be easily bought at the pharmacy or groceries i might ask my friend who is married to the us army to get me some from the base since i do not have access I dont feel bad because i felt like i didnt take care of her but i feel bad that i knew something was up and i didnt take her to the vet sooner. I guess right now we gotta play the waiting game. The wood light and initial test is positive but i heard nothing is as accurate as the culture test which will take a few days. Fingers crossed! I still have hope! Im takiking cocos toys bed and my bed sheets and washing them in the hottest water setting and taking it up to the roof to dry them under the sun! And i gotta some how find disinfected spray like lysol. Wonder whats the equilvalent here in asia...

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I don't know if you can give them the sulfur baths yourself I had to take the GP to the vets for the baths. Hopefully the culture will be negative.
