| Something is wrong with my baby Bentley was acting whiny and begging for *something* and we didn't know what. He wouldn't play, he would run after the toy then not bring it back. He kept begging for something so I finally suggested for dad to take him for a short walk around the block. They went. Something happened outside where Bentley had to poop and it got all over his butt, maybe it wasn't formed? And dad said he was licking his leg which was weird. Well when he got inside I checked his butt and it was all messy so mom gave him a small bath. He started vomiting violently while mom was holding him to dry him off. He emptied his stomach. Maybe he had one to many half greenies? He refuses to walk on his back left leg, holding it up and licking it continuously. We checked and feel no bump, bite, tick, no blood, no swelling nothing. I gave him a dose of benedryl (2.5 cc's per previous conversations with the vet). He's calming down a bit but STILL continuously licking his leg. We can't figure out what's wrong. Something similar happened about a month or so ago where he almost died but (someone- God?) saved him. I don't know what to do. He's not breathing funny or slow or anything like last time and the only thing he is doing is licking. Should I follow up with more benedryl in the morning? If he is not walking on his leg tomorrow I will probably call the vet and get an appointment. It seems it is not safe to walk my dog around our neighborhood. I have no idea what to do. He's not shaking or anything odd. It's ridiculous that we can't walk our dog around our neighborhood without him getting sick or bitten or something. I'm so ticked right now. I don't want to deny him walks. I live in a nice suburban neighborhood. People spray their grass and stuff so bugs or snakes arent around. I think he's okay I am just scared and ticked.

| It's not the same behaviour (other than licking excessively his leg). He is alert and his gums are pink. He seems to have calmed down on the licking. He's not walking on that leg though. His breathing is normal and he is not shaking. Before when that happened he vomited and then became practically lifeless. He was pooping while sitting down on the carpet and not moving. That didn't happen this time. He is not showing signs of shock or anything scary. If he is still not walking on his leg tomorrow I'll call the vet and see what to do. They will probably want to see him and I will have them shave his leg to see if we can see any stinger or bite mark. We combed through the area tonight several times and could not feel or see any issue. No redness or blood. Dad just carried Bentley upstairs to sleep with them for the night. Mom is up several times during the night so I'm sure she'll check on him then.

| Perhaps lyme disease can make him hike his leg. As can luxating patella (floating knee cap). Either way, he needs to be seen by a vet. I know the behavior, when they don't want to walk but have that antsy vibe. Something is not sitting right with him.

| I'm not sure it's the knee, the doc said usually it'll pop back into place. He does have bad knees though. But he's licking in the bend of his leg, below his knee, before his foot (ankle?). I just hope the vet doesn't give him an epinephrin shot again because it caused SEVERE itching at the injection site last time when he was stung by a bee. Poor guy was miserable. :sigh: We have bad luck. Why can't we have a happy healthy yorkie that doesn't have issues?! I love him dearly. I wouldn't trade him for the world.

| He could have got stung by a yellow jacket or something else, you can't see where it happened. This may be why he is licking. My Tessie did this when she got stung on her paw. The vet gave her a shot because she had some swelling around her eyes. I would take him to the vet.

| What a blessing! He's fine today, he's walking fine and just ate his breakfast! Dad and he are on a walk right now. Thank you for your well wishes. I'm so happy that he's fine! Whew!

| If it were me..I would still get him checked out as this has happened before. I would also not walk him where he seems to have been getting sick. Maybe it is a reaction to some poison from a lawn company. But I would still go to the vet with him.

| I'm very happy Bentley is doing better, and I agree with others that it would be a very good idea to have a vet check him out.

| This doesn't sound like normal behavior to me. Since he has had a similar episode within a month I would definitely have him checked by the vet. Was he checked out last time? |

| He went 3 years without having something like this happen. So I don't think it's the lawn chemicals. I just think he got bit or stung by something. He is back to normal today. He was not seen by a vet last time but was the time before. This is the 3rd time this year that this has happened. If he was still limping or licking his leg today I would have taken him into the vet immediately. He wasn't licking his paws and whatever happened was acute trauma of some kind. He is fine today, back to normal so I don't feel the need to take him to the vet. We don't have all sorts of money right now as mom just had major surgery and needs a new dental bridge and both of those are thousands of dollars. Since he is doing fine today I don't think a vet visit is warranted. Had he continued to vomit last night or had blood or mucous in his poo today I would have taken him.
