Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am at a loss on what is bothering Pixie Pixie has ben treated for a UTI since last Friday. She has been whining and crying to go out and stay in the front of the house instead of in back with us. She is on tramadol and metacam as well as Clavamox. She had a bad night last night with the thunder and was up all night. She seemed better today but that may be because she was worn out from last night. I took another urine sample in today and it was normal. So the infection has cleared up. So tonight she started with wanting to be in the front of the house, whining if she can't be up there and shivering. I am at a total loss as to what is bothering her. She is eating good and walking and going up and down the stairs so I don't think it is any joint or back pain. The only thing that is in the back of my mind is the day before all this started she had her first dose for the year of her Revolution. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. I am sorry to keep going on about this but I don't know what else to do. Thanks

| I'm sorry Pixie is going through this. You have said she keeps preferring one area of the house & it made me think back to a thread a while ago where the pup could hear or smell a possum in the crawl space. Any chance it could be something like that or even a tree branch rubbing on the roof or something that you may easily ignore or not even notice but maybe it's spooking her? Just a thought, hope Pixie is feeling better soon.

| I've been thinking about her and just can't come up with anything. Have you thought about talking to a vet who is a member of the college of ehaviorists (I think that exists)? Do you notice any difference before or after the drugs are given? Does she shiver all the time? Does she mind being touched?

| I was thinking the same thing. Is she trying to dig or does she keep looking at one place in the walls or at the window? I know it sounds weird. But when we moved into our current house we had only 1 dog and he was only 18months old. One night he kept running to the front door and barking,my husband kept taking him back to the den and telling him to be quiet. I said "open the front door and let him see". My husband finally opened the door and there was a possum standing on our porche. He owed the dog an apology. |

| When Rosie was at the er vet in January she had some similar behaviors. She would act what I called "skittish". She just didn't act her normal self. She did not want anyone but me. She only wanted me in the living room. I don't know why because she is usually in the bedroom with us. I had to hold her in the rocking chair. Is that how you would describe Pixie's behavior? Rosie did have an infection and he said she was "stressed". They did blood work on her as well. After a few nights, she was fine. It was very strange. Also, maybe there is something different going on with the Revolution? I don't know if they have changed anything with this product? Poor baby. And poor momma. Wouldn't it be easier if they could talk?

| I suppose the good news is that she appears to be medically healthy. Is it possible this is just a behavioral issue? What exactly does she do when you let her into the space she wants to be in?

| I'm sorry Patti. Poor Pixie, I just can't imagine what's going on with her. Have her ears been checked thoroughly? Maybe the changes in air pressure from the storms has bothered her ears? Just reaching with this one, sorry. Hugs, Bonny

| Poor Pixie. Could it be a side effect from the medicine that she was taking? I hope she's better soon. |

| Cricket had a reaction to Advantix years ago and acted funny, shaking, but her skin was bright red and inflamed. Vet prescribed some short-term prednisone and she was fine. Never used Advantix again on her. Just grasping at straws to try to help. I'm not sure if you checked Pixie's skin for inflammation. Hope she is soon feeling better or you can get some answers for the poor little girl.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks. If I let her on the other side of the gate, which I am doing most of the time she just goes and lays down. Every so often she will come back by me and whine then go lay down. She woke me up at 5 this morning shaking so much. But in a few minutes I heard the thunder. So I put on her thundershirt and made sure the closet door was open (she seemed to like to be in there the other day when it thundered. Within 5 minutes I didn't hear or see her. I went to the closet and she had climbed to the back hiding in the corner. It's a walk in closet. I but the soft crate in there to see if she would settle down in it. I woke up at 8:30 and she wasn't anywhere I could see her. She normally flies to my side the second she knows I am awake. I went looking for her and she was sleeping in the crate in the closet. So hopefully, she has found a safe spot she can go to during storms. But first thing she did after getting up and going out to go potty was whine to go on the otherside of the gate. I let her go and she laid down on the front hall rug. Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't think it is any noise or animal as the other 2 are much more attuned to animals in the yard and they are fine.. At the Er vet they kept her in back with them for 3 hours and did all the check up back there. The records show they went over everything. The pain medicine and the metacam make no difference in her behavior which leads me to think she isn't in pain. I've only felt her shiver a couple of times other than during thunder storms. Pixie's skin looks ok. I am going to see how the weekend goes and then talk to her vet about where do we go from here. I will have more extensive blood work done as well. If everything checks put than it may be behavioral. Thanks

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm so sorry Pixie is still struggling. Have you tried Melatonin yet? It is used for thunder fear and July 4th fear, and some have very positive results. It is easily obtained via Target, Walmart, the grocery etcetera. You'd give 3mg if you think a storm is coming; don't get the extended-release kind. You can try cutting it in 1/2, but they see more efficacy in 3mg, even in small dogs. Wylie takes Melatonin 3mg every day for his Cushings, no side effects. Thunderstorm Anxiety - VetInfo I'm sure this has been asked, but...knees?

| I'm so sorry to hear what's going on with Pixie. It must be so frustrating to not know what is bothering her. After reading your post it made me think of the flee meds. My husbands dog took Sentinel for years and then all of a sudden she started going nuts after each dose. She would cry, run around and not settle and eat the carpet or the grass non stop. It was horrible. We spent many nites at the ER. Finally attributed it to the sentinel and had to stop giving her the medicine. I also recently switched my guys from Sentinel to Interceptor and Frontline and Skittles acted really strange for days. He wouldn't settle down, his tummy was making these horrible noises. Cried all nite. I asked the vet and they said Interceptor has nothing that Sentinel didn't have so he should be fine with it. But I know it was definitely the medicine. I hope you are able to find some answers soon. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks. I am taking Pixie to her vet Monday. She has reviewed all Pixie's test results from the other vet in her practice and the ER vet bust hasn't seen her in person. She isn't in until Monday but I want her to see her. Pixie is having longer periods of staying in the back with us, but not rally interacting with the other dogs like she use to or coming on the bed. I did notice when she was eating earlier she was holding up her front right leg. This is the leg she had tendonitis in. I haven't seen her limp at all so it may just be how she was eating tonight. But I am glad her vet will be seeing her as she diagnosed the tendonitis and can recheck it. I still have in the back of my mind that this all started a day after her first Revolution treatment for the year. I will not give her anymore just in case.
