| Romeo - bloody, mucus poop and more.. The first time I took Romeo to the vet they told me he had worms and coccydia.. they gave him medicine for the worms but the vet told me he didnt want Romeo to take the medicine for coccydia because he was so small and he wanted to wait until he was up to 2 pounds. ( he was 1.7 pounds then) So I came home and he was doing fine from all his puppy shots and everything.. On May 25th I took him back to get his last puppy shot and they tested his stool...they didnt find any of the coccydia but because he was 2 pounds now they wanted to start him on the Albon for the coccydia just incase they had missed it or he had some dormant in him. So they gave him the medicine and I continued to give it to him for 3 days after. His poop was finally starting to get harder and not-so-soft and I was so excited. Then on Friday May 27th I was at the gym and my sister called me and told me that Romeo had pooped yellow jello poop with blood at the end.. and that he had thrown up yellow bile...so I rushed home and looked at it.. It looked like he had pooped out a lung pretty much. It started out yellow then was kind of clear with bloody vein looking things at the end. I called the vet and they told me because he was on an antibotic that it was probably irritating his intestine so they wanted me to get him some yogurt... which I did and I guess everything was fine. On Wenesday June 1st Romeo went back to get his rabis shot and everything was fine that whole day and all of Thursday.. Then on Friday (June 3rd) I was with Romeo in the morning and he was acting very strange..lathargic and when he was laying by me he was shaking. He didnt eat or drink anything the whole morning, and wasnt interested in treats. Then he pooped that yellow jello poop and there was blood at the end of it. He literally went around the living room pooping this stuff for about 15 minutes.. then he laid by me shaking again. So i called the vet and they told me to bring him in and I did. They checked him all over. He had lost .6 pounds (He was 2 pounds on Wednesday and then on that day he was 1.94) They gave him some food and he ate that (this was at about 2:00pm and he hadnt eaten anything all day before that) they checked the mucus/blood stool that I had brought and they said they couldnt find any parasites in it but because it was mostly mucus/blood that they couldnt really rely on that so they put him BACK on the Albon antibotic and this time they want him to take it for 7 days. I don't really understand this because the other vet when I took him the first time was so cautious to put him on it in the first place because he is so small. Now he has been on the Albon since Friday and then yesterday he threw up twice but it was just puppy food.. so I don't know if his stomach is just upset or what? I give him about two tablespoons of dry food 4 times a day and he eats normal and drinks normal.. he is still playful most of the time but then once in awhile he'll act kind of lathargic and tired. I'm just wondering.. what should I do? Am i worrying too much? Is this normal? Should I take him to a different vet or what? They didn't even tell me WHAT causes mucus/bloody stool and i'm really worried about my puppy...

| Poor Romeo. Mucous and blood in the stool is not normal. It can be caused by many things. I would see another vet. I hope you can get to the bottom of this soon and get Romeo on the road to recovery.

| Did they run blood work at all? Or any kind of tests? If they did not tell you what is wrong I would call them back and question it. Is his stool back to normal? Has he thrown up anymore?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I always worry when they have blood in their stools. I would get a second opinion. Cali has had 2 bouts of HGE and they can do a blood test to test for that. I hope he is feeling better soon.

| I am sorry your puppy is sick. I would seek a second opinion in case the first vet has missed or simply overlooked something. These little guys can go down hill so quickly I always worry when one of my girls are not feeling well. Get Well wishes to your little guy and please keep us posted on how he is doing. |

| No, they didnt run any blood work or any kids of tests besides testing the stool.. his stool this morning was extremely dark but still kind of soft.. He ate this morning before I left for work and my mom is with him and said he has eaten his dry food and has been drinking too..

| The darkness of the stool can be blood.

Rosie went in about two years ago with vomiting and bloody stool. They did run blood work on her and even kept her for a few hours because of fear of dehydration. They gave her a shot to help with the vomiting/diarrhea and an oral antibiotic. My vet will not even treat without doing blood work on her. There are just too many things it can be. I am glad he is drinking and eating. However, I think I would take a stool sample to the vet to ensure there is not blood in it. With these little ones, you just can't be to careful.

| I have never heard of being too small for cocci meds? I would think to be on the small side they would want to start even sooner! How old is your baby? Usually it is suggested to only give shots to healthy puppies and it looks like they gave the Rabies shot way earlier than most would suggest and WAY too soon after the last puppy shot. This is way over doing his system. Do you leave food down for him all the time too? A pup of his size should have food available at all times. I would give something to put good bacteria in his belly too. Good luck!!

| I would go see another vet for a second opinion. My vet told me when there is a problem in the intestines, the stool is soft, and it comes out with some mucus. When there is no more mucus, the soft stool comes out irritating the lining of the intestines causing it too bleed. Bloody soft stool takes a while to get that way and is not good. My vet prescribed diarsynal paste (it can be purchased over the counter as well) but if it were me, I would def see another vet. I hope Romeo gets better really soon.

| I can't believe they didn't even do bloodwork. I go along with everyone else. I would get a second opionion. Maybe you can find a vet that specializes in small breeds. Hope that baby gets well soon. You are truely blessed when you find a good vet. They are as hard to find as our doctors. |

| Just wanted to let you guys know.... This morning my mom woke me up that she was rushing Romeo to the vet because he was puking and pooping blood/mucus and he wouldn't stop... I said bye to my baby incase anything would happen because I had to go to class because I had finals this week and I couldnt miss it was horrible to not be able to go with him... I cried my whole way to class cause I was soo worried about my baby... So anyways, he gets to the vet and they test his stool sample and its all fine.. no worms, no parasites..nothing. My mom told them to do whatever tests they had to do to figure out what was wrong... they gave him a blood test.. the results came back his potassium was low and they thought that he might possibly have hypokalemia so they had to put my little man on an iv for about 15 minutes and my mom said he cried the entire time THANK GOD the test came back negative! His bloodwork was all perfect... everything else was fine... The vet is thinking that he has a sensitive Gastrointestinal track... they put him on special intestine dog food and we're gonna go from here.. if it doesnt get better then he is going to get a biopsy done of his intestine.. romeo is home and doing fine so far.. he is always playful and it was sooo good to see him tonight after a long 10 hours at school ...thank you all so much for your sweet thoughts and prayers <3
